First day in Medellin

First day in Medellin

Medellin, Colombia, South America I woke up this morning after getting about six hours of sleep on the bus. For me that was a good result, because I wasn’t sure what the ride was going to be like, but it was actually pretty good. The temperature was comfortable for the whole ride, and it wasn’t as bumpy of a ride as I had expected it to be. The road system in Colombia is a lot better than I had anticipated…

Final day in Cartagena; Bus to Medellin

Final day in Cartagena; Bus to Medellin

Cartagena, Colombia, South America I chilled in Cartagena today with my new Aussie friend Kim. We led the hostel to check out the castle on the hill just outside of the old town. The mistake that we made was that we didn’t start heading to the castillo until 11am, so it was hot as hell outside. We first stopped at the post office so I could ship my guayabera back to the United States. I’m assuming I won’t be going…

Diving at Islas del Rosario

Diving at Islas del Rosario

Cartagena, Colombia, South America I got to go diving today!!! I was so lucky! I showed up at the dive center in Cartagena at 8am sharp, and luckily someone had already called to cancel. I paid for the day, which was about twice as expensive as the dives in Santa Marta (281,000 pesos compared to 130,000), but it was worth it. The owner of the dive shop, Andres, brought me and three others to the dock to catch our boat….

Day in Cartagena old town

Day in Cartagena old town

Cartagena, Colombia, South America I got to see some of Cartagena today, and it is really nice. The old town here is much more beautiful than the old town in Santa Marta. I walked around the city for a few hours and got to see a lot of the sights including some old churches, nice squares, and a walk along the city walls. I even got to stop and have lunch at one of my favorite restaurants, Hard Rock Cafe….

Diving in Taganga

Diving in Taganga

Cartagena, Colombia, South America I had a brilliant time diving in Taganga today! I got up early and walked down to the dive shop in Santa Marta. There was one other diver coming with me today to do his first open water dive, so we got a taxi from Santa Marta to the dive shop in Taganga. We met all the staff including my dive master for the day, Camila. All 15 of us hopped into the boat and we…

Day in Tayrona Parque

Day in Tayrona Parque

Santa Marta, Colombia, South America I had an incredible day today! I got up and had breakfast at the hostel and got to Magic Tour by 8:30am. Hanan walked me down to the bus stop where I met the other 20+ people who were all coming on the same tour. Luckily I got a seat next to an Italian guy who spoke english, so we could chat a bit on the bus journey. It took about an hour for us…

Chill day in Santa Marta

Chill day in Santa Marta

Santa Marta, Colombia, South America Today was just a chilled day in Santa Marta for me to get some things organized and recover from an awesome weekend. I hung out at the hostel and did some research on where I am going to go next. I was thinking about going north to a town called Rioacha, but it is really far out of my way, and from talking to a few other travelers at the hostel, and some tour guides,…

Great day in Taganga

Great day in Taganga

Santa Marta, Colombia, South America Today was brilliant! I don’t know how it happened after all I drank last night, but I woke up at 10am without a hangover. I felt great this morning actually. We were late for breakfast, but the staff were nice enough to make us breakfast, which was exactly what we needed to start the day. We went back to get ready and pack up our things, and then we left the hotel at noon. We…

Wedding day on the beach

Wedding day on the beach

Santa Marta, Colombia, South America Today. Was. Awesome. We started out with a great breakfast at the hotel, right next to the massive pool, and with a view of the beach. It was beautiful. We finished breakfast and headed out into the town of Santa Marta. We got a taxi to La Quinta de San Pedro, which is where Simon Bolivar lived and died. It was interesting to see where he lived, and how he lived, but the nicest thing…

Last day in Bogota; Night in Santa Marta

Last day in Bogota; Night in Santa Marta

Santa Marta, Colombia, South America I got up this morning after another great night’s sleep at Colombia at Home. This has been a brilliant place to stay. I can’t wait to come back here someday. I packed up my stuff and checked out and then went into the city. I’d been told that I needed to check out the Museo del Oro (Gold Museum), so I made sure to get there today. It was a pretty cool museum with a…
