Chill day in Santa Marta
Santa Marta, Colombia, South America
Today was just a chilled day in Santa Marta for me to get some things organized and recover from an awesome weekend. I hung out at the hostel and did some research on where I am going to go next. I was thinking about going north to a town called Rioacha, but it is really far out of my way, and from talking to a few other travelers at the hostel, and some tour guides, it might not be worth it with my timescales. So that means I can check out going south from here after checking out more of Santa Marta.
I had lunch at this really nice restaurant near the Parque Del Novios, where I had chicken fajitas, with rice instead of a tortilla, and passion fruit juice. It was excellent! I went from there to a tour agency recommended by Enrique at my hostel called Magic Tour. I found a perfect tour for me to check out Tayrona Park tomorrow that involves a mixture of trekking and chilling on the beach. Sounds like exactly what I need. I then went to Santa Marta Dive Center where I organized a day of diving on Wednesday with Fernando. It seems like a pretty good deal for two dives, including transportation to Taganga, all the equipment, and the boat trip to the island we will be diving at, all for 130,000 pesos (£41). Not bad at all considering the taxi cost Melissa and I 70,000 for the return journey alone.
I am not getting used to this heat though. I was hoping after a few days it wouldn’t be so bad, but it might even be getting worse. The humidity is the worst part about it, especially not having A/C at the hostel. As soon as I get out of the shower I am just sweating again. There’s no way to stop it. I can only imagine what it’s going to be like in the jungle tomorrow for this trek to the beach, but it’s all part of the experience!
