Rainy day sights

Rainy day sights

Luang Prabang, Laos, Asia I woke up this morning to the sound of rain pelting the tin roof awning just outside my window. It wasn’t exactly what I was hoping for since I wanted to do a bit of sightseeing and a dry day would have been nice. I lazed around for a bit hoping the rain would go off but at 10am I decided to do something. I went up to Joma Bakery and had an awesome breakfast that…

Rainy day, nothing to do

Rainy day, nothing to do

Luang Prabang, Laos, Asia Today started out great with an amazing showing by the Patriots crushing the Dolphins in Miami. I watched the first half of the Denver vs. Oakland game and then decided to head out. I went to a little French cafe for lunch, and then found a couple of bars to chill out and have a beer in. The weather was horrible all day today and never stopped raining. It really wasn’t the best day to go…

Bumpy road to Luang Prabang

Bumpy road to Luang Prabang

Luang Prabang, Laos, Asia I got up this morning and watched the first half of the Cowboys vs Jets game while I packed up my stuff to leave Vang Vieng. I grabbed a quick breakfast sandwich at a local cafe and waited for my taxi to bring me to the bus station. It was supposed to come at 8:30am to get me there for a 9am bus. A taxi never came, just two mini vans. One was a nice big…

Tubing baby!

Tubing baby!

Vang Vieng, Laos, Asia I got up this morning and realized it was the 10th anniversary of 9/11. It really is amazing to think that was ten years ago, because I can remember everything about that day in such minute detail. It was also crazy to think how things have changed so much in my life in the last ten years too. In 2001 I was a freshman in college and really had no idea what I wanted to do…

I love Family Guy!

I love Family Guy!

Vang Vieng, Laos, Asia I woke up to an awesome view outside of my window today. It really showed me why people come out here, even if it’s not for the tubing trip. The landscape out here is stunning. I went down to the lobby at the Popular View Guest House (a very apt name), and had an awesome breakfast. Then I had to do my least favorite thing and pack all my stuff up to move hotels. I found…

Heading north to Vang Vieng

Heading north to Vang Vieng

Vang Vieng, Laos, Asia I got up this morning and was enjoying the air conditioning too much to move. I went downstairs for breakfast, which was awesome again, but they don’t have A/C in the lobby, so it was pretty hot. I retreated back to my room for a bit and packed up all my stuff to get ready to leave. At 11:30am I left my bags in the lobby and ventured out to see some of the town. I…

Trip to Buddha Park

Trip to Buddha Park

Vientiane, Laos, Asia I got up today and enjoyed a great breakfast at my hotel. They had a few things to choose from and I had the fried eggs and sausages (which are actually hot dogs), with a banana shake and fruit salad. It was a great start to the day. At about 11am I headed over to Joma Bakery to try and meet up with Palli, from the train, but he wasn’t there. I did run into Katy, a…

I’m in Laos!

I’m in Laos!

Vientiane, Laos, Asia Last night was a fairly good ride, I only woke up a few times and probably got 4-5 hours of sleep. I got up at 7am and had some breakfast on the train before finding out that we were running about 3 hours late. Instead of getting to Nong Khai at 8:25am, we pulled in at about 11:15am. I stuck with Palli and a Russian guy named William. We got a tuk tuk to the Thailand Immigration…
