Great day in Taganga
Santa Marta, Colombia, South America
Today was brilliant! I don’t know how it happened after all I drank last night, but I woke up at 10am without a hangover. I felt great this morning actually. We were late for breakfast, but the staff were nice enough to make us breakfast, which was exactly what we needed to start the day. We went back to get ready and pack up our things, and then we left the hotel at noon. We left our bags at the hotel and caught a taxi to a town up the coast called Taganga.
It was about a 45 minute ride to get to the town and and then we hopped on a little boat to get to an isolated beach, that I never would have found if Melissa weren’t here. She knew exactly where we were going, and it was awesome. We got to this little beach on Punta Ancon, and found a couple of chairs to sit in under some cover. We also got service at our seats, so we had a couple of beers and just enjoyed the beautiful weather and the view.
We went swimming for a bit and the water was absolutely perfect. It was a perfect way to relax after such a crazy night at the wedding. We chilled there for a few hours before getting the boat back to Taganga and going for lunch. Melissa had told me that we were going to a hostel called Casa de Felipe for lunch, which I was a bit dubious about. Who goes to a hostel for lunch?? Brilliant people, that’s who! The food was amazing! The chef at this hostel is a french man who used to own a Michelin Star restaurant in France, but then fell in love with Colombia and decided to move here. Oh man, the food was awesome. The kitchen had actually closed twenty minutes before we got there, but the guys were nice enough to cook us lunch anyway. The people here are so nice. Melissa had a steak, and I had chicken, and both were excellent. I couldn’t have been more impressed. Melissa and I didn’t talk for about twenty minutes while we ate, because it was just so good.
We finished lunch and then needed a little rest so we chilled in a hammock at the hostel. It was so nice to just relax today, and Melissa could not have made a better plan to do just that. We got a taxi back to the hotel so we could pick up our bags and then part ways. It was a perfect weekend up here in Santa Marta, and I was really sad to see Melissa leave tonight. I’m not on my own at my hostel, which is really nice, but the last few weeks with Melissa and her family and friends in Bogota and up here were so awesome, I’m sad that it’s over. Now I’m on my own and I am going to get back to traveling the way I was for the last few months. This Zleeping Hostel seems like a good place to restart my traveling. It’s a really nice, new hostel and the guy who runs it (Enrique) is awesome. I’m going to like it here I think.
