Lynne’s Last Day

Lynne’s Last Day

Bangkok, Thailand, Asia I woke up this morning very well rested after finally being back in a place with air conditioning. It’s amazing the difference that makes after walking around in the 90*+ heat all day. Lynne and I got up and she went straight up to the roof deck to soak up as many of the sun’s rays as possible. I watched a few TV shows and took advantage of the amazingly fast download speeds at the hostel to…

Weird trip to Bangkok

Weird trip to Bangkok

Bangkok, Thailand, Asia Today was such a long and strange day. Planes, trains, and automobiles doesn’t even start to explain it. We were picked up by a nice air conditioned van at 6:30am to go to the pier in Nathon. From there we caught the ferry for an hour and a half to Surat Thani on the mainland. We had bought a joint ticket to get us straight to the airport, so when we got off the ferry we got…

Temple of the Emerald Buddha

Temple of the Emerald Buddha

Bangkok, Thailand, Asia Today I finally got to see the Emerald Buddha! I got to cross off #48 on my top 100 list, which was the 47th thing I’ve seen. I’m making good progress! We got up at about 9am and started some laundry and grabbed some breakfast downstairs. We had to decide what we were going to do after Chiang Mai, and we decided on a nice resort in Phuket for a week. You can get some awesome deals…

Cooking class and cinema

Bangkok, Thailand, Asia We started today out with another breakfast at our hostel and then started planning what our next steps would be. We realized that tonight is our last night booked in this hostel and we should figure out where we want to go next. We decided that we’re going to go up to Chiang Mai, and then go down to the islands after that, so we needed to book our bus. We waited for the tour woman to…

Reclining Buddha and Standing Buddha

Reclining Buddha and Standing Buddha

Bangkok, Thailand, Asia Lynne and I got up at about 10am and grabbed breakfast at the hostel. We caught the BTS over to Central Pier, and from there got a water taxi upriver to Tha Tien. This is where we thought we could see the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, but we saw a sign that said Wat Pho was closer. We weren’t sure what that was, but I had heard the name before, so we decided to take a…

Lynne’s Here!!!

Lynne’s Here!!!

Bangkok, Thailand, Asia I didn’t get up to much in Bangkok today, because I was afraid I would see something cool, but then would have to go back to see it again when Lynne got here. I chilled at the hostel for most of the morning and then headed to a local shopping center with my roommate Taylor. We grabbed some lunch while we were out, and then went back to the hostel to chill. I decided that today would…

On to Thailand!

On to Thailand!

Bangkok, Thailand, Asia I was woken up at 7am by the staff at Happy Coconuts Hostel this morning, and told that my check out time was in 15 minutes. It turns out that I found the only hostel in the world that does not have a normal “Check In” and “Check Out” time protocol. Instead, they operate on a 24 hour room rental, so because they were “nice enough” to let me check in at 7:15am, they were making me…
