On to Thailand!
Bangkok, Thailand, Asia
I was woken up at 7am by the staff at Happy Coconuts Hostel this morning, and told that my check out time was in 15 minutes. It turns out that I found the only hostel in the world that does not have a normal “Check In” and “Check Out” time protocol. Instead, they operate on a 24 hour room rental, so because they were “nice enough” to let me check in at 7:15am, they were making me check out at the same time today or I would be charged for another room. Not cool.
So I was pretty pissed off and got up and took a quick shower, packed up all my stuff, and moved from the room into the lobby. I had to sit in the lobby until 11am when I could finally head over to the airport. I couldn’t believe they kicked me out of the room so early, but they did.
I got to the airport pretty early, again, but it was good because I had enough time to grab lunch at a restaurant there. I also had to find the counter to pay my airport usage fee, which was about $18, just to leave the airport. I thought it was cool that I didn’t have to pay for a visa to enter the Philippines, but it turns out they screw you over when you want to leave instead.
I was delayed by about 45 minutes at the airport, but eventually we took off at about 3:30pm and it was smooth sailing from there. We landed in Bangkok at 6pm and I got straight through immigration and customs and was on a train into the city by 7pm. The public transport system (BTS) in Bangkok is brilliant! It’s so nice not to have to jump in a taxi to get somewhere. It was really easy to find my hostel too, so that was nice.
Saphai Pae Backpackers is a really nice hostel, one of the nicest I’ve stayed in on this trip. It has huge dorm rooms, wifi all over the building and a restaurant downstairs with very reasonable prices. I met my roommate Taylor (Alaskan) and we grabbed some dinner downstairs. We played some pool in the common area and then just chilled in the room. I’m pretty tired from the annoying rude wake up call this morning, and then the travelling, so I’m just going to call it a night now. Not sure how much I’ll sleep though, I’m pretty excited to be seeing Lynne tomorrow night!!
