Flying down to Punta Arenas

Flying down to Punta Arenas

Punta Arenas, Chile, South America I had a decent sleep at the hostel last night. The only thing that disrupted me was the howling wind coming off the water outside my window. I had a nice breakfast up in the dining room, which confirmed my thought that I was the only one in the hotel. My table was all set for me, and it was the only one in the whole restaurant that had been set up. Yikes. I checked…

Moving on to Ancud

Moving on to Ancud

Ancud, Chile, South America I woke up today to the sound of pouring rain outside, so I was really in no hurry to get moving. I had breakfast downstairs at the hostel and then got packed up and left by noon. I walked down to the bus terminal and got my ticket for the next bus to Ancud, which was in two minutes. I love it when that happens! It was just an hour and a half to get to…

NFL Sunday in Castro

NFL Sunday in Castro

Castro, Chile, South America I had a quiet day in Castro today, which was perfect considering it was NFL Sunday. I had a walk around town, just to see if I had missed anything yesterday, which I hadn’t. I got a massive burger for lunch, and then came back to the hostel to watch football. I’ve decided to stay here again tonight because the internet is just so good and I really want to watch the Patriots vs. Colts game…

Travelling to Castro on Chiloe

Travelling to Castro on Chiloe

Castro, Chile, South America I arrived in Puerto Montt after a nice twelve hour bus ride. I think I got 3-4 hours of sleep, so I’m pretty happy with that. I got into the main bus terminal at 9:30am and found the next bus heading to Castro on Chiloe at 10:45am. There’s not much gong on in the bus terminal, so I just sat around and waited there. The next four hour bus ride proved to be so much worse…

Last day in Santiago before heading south

Last day in Santiago before heading south

Santiago, Chile, South America I had a good last day in Santiago today. It started with a pretty quiet morning at the hostel. They actually brought me breakfast in my room, which I have never had before. It wasn’t much. Just a ham and cheese sandwich on typical Chilean bread, with juice, a banana, and a breakfast bar. I’m very impressed with this hostel though. It’s been really nice, and the owner Mario has been awesome. I checked out around…

Quiet day in Santiago

Quiet day in Santiago

Santiago, Chile, South America Today was a very quiet day, getting used to being on my own again. I woke up at the Ibis and went down to have breakfast. I’ve been traveling alone for almost eight months now, so you’d think I’d be used to having breakfast by myself, but it seemed really strange. In just a few days I got really used to sharing breakfast with Melissa, so now I have to get used to having it on…

Last day with Melissa in Valparaiso

Santiago, Chile, South America Today was Melissa’s last day here in Chile, so we made sure to really enjoy ourselves. We had a nice relaxed morning at the hotel. We had an amazing breakfast that included eggs and ham, a few fresh fruit juices, freshly cut fruits, all kinds of breads, and even some different pies! What a great way to start the day! We checked out of the hotel around 9:30am and headed down the mountain to meet for…

Casablanca, Bodegas RE, Valparaiso

Valparaiso, Chile, South America We had an awesome day today! From beginning to end, it was perfect! We got up early, had a good breakfast at the hotel, and then caught our bus at 8:30am to go to Casablanca. We had a bike tour starting at 9:45am with our guide Angela, and we were about ten minutes late. We were the only ones on the tour though, so it didn’t really matter. Angela came out an met us on the…

Climbing up and falling down Campana

Climbing up and falling down Campana

Santiago, Chile, South America We got up really early this morning, and headed out to the bus station for 7am. We didn’t have time to get breakfast at the hotel, so we ended up just grabbing a couple of ham and cheese rolls at the bus terminal to have on the bus. It was only about an hour and a half, but it was a really nice ride. We came into Olmue at this point where all you could see…

Day to explore Santiago by foot

Day to explore Santiago by foot

Santiago, Chile, South America We had another great day today, even though it didn’t quite go according to the plan. By the plan, I mean the calendar of possible things that we could do, that Melissa put together in the last few weeks. She had things planned for every day we are here, and today we were supposed to go to a national park to visit the hot springs, and then maybe hike around. We found out this morning that…
