First day in Sydney, and catching up

First day in Sydney, and catching up

Sydney, Australia, Australia My first full day in Sydney was a great success! I woke up to barely better weather than I feel asleep to, so at least it wasn’t raining. I took a walk from the hostel down to Darling Harbor and walked around there and Cockles Bay until about 12pm. At that point I went up to Pyrmont Bridge where I met my friend Erin for lunch. We grabbed a couple of kebabs and ate by the wharf…

On to Sydney!

On to Sydney!

Sydney, Australia, Australia Today was a very eventful day! I woke up and checked out of my hostel by 8:30am and headed over to Oska’s on the esplanade for breakfast. Sheree from the Pacific Sunrise was cooking up a storm over there and I wasn’t going to miss one of her meals if possible! I had some awesome pancakes and bacon and then said good bye before catching my shuttle to Shute Harbour. I had booked my flight to Sydney…

Lazy day

Lazy day

Airlie Beach, Australia, Australia Today was a very lazy day for me. I woke up late, hung around Airlie Beach all day at the lagoon, and then had dinner and came back to the hostel. My big plans for tonight are just to repack all of my stuff for my trip to Sydney tomorrow. Exciting stuff, I know!

Back to shore…

Airlie Beach, Australia, Australia I woke up today on the boat for the last time and had to start packing up my things. We were setting sail for Airlie Beach at 7:30am and our bags had to be packed and in the library ready to go. I had a quick breakfast in the dining room (the best banana and cinnamon muffins ever!) and then we were all called to the top deck. We were finally going to have a chance…

Whitehaven Beach!!

Whitehaven Beach!!

Whitsunday Islands, Australia, Australia You’ll all be happy to know that I woke up this morning after a very good night’s sleep, AND I didn’t fall off the top bunk. Jackpot! We had breakfast and lounged around for a couple of hours until we got to Tongue Bay on Whitsunday Island. From there we took a walk through the woods to the other side of the island until we reached Whitehaven Beach. This is the beach that holds the Guinness…

Snorkelling in the Whitsundays

Snorkelling in the Whitsundays

Whitsunday Islands, Australia, Australia As expected I was awake this morning at 7am without having slept a wink last night. The twin bunk was uncomfortably small so every time I moved I kicked a wall. It was so annoying that at one point I tried laying on the floor to sleep, but it turns out there was a small leak and the floor was wet. Not cool. I went up for breakfast and decided that I wouldn’t do any scuba…

I’m sailing away

I’m sailing away

Whitsunday Islands, Australia, Australia I woke up this morning to torrential rain like I’ve never heard before pouring down on Airlie Beach. It figures that it would do this today because I am boarding the Pacific Sunrise boat for the next three days and nights, so why wouldn’t a monsoon come through?? I checked out of the YHA at 10am and dropped my bag off at the Whitsunday Sailing Adventures office for them to hold while I was gone. I…

Lazing in paradise :-)

Lazing in paradise :-)

Airlie Beach, Australia, Australia Today didn’t consist of much more than just lazing by the lagoon in the center of Airlie Beach. There are no stinger nets up so if you want to swim it has to be in the lagoon. I got there early and found a picnic table in the shade and parked myself there for the majority of the day. Unfortunately, because the lagoon is quite shallow and confined, the water is VERY warm, like a bath….

Going to the Whitsundays…

Going to the Whitsundays…

Airlie Beach, Australia, Australia I left the hostel at 10am and went to the bus station to catch the Greyhound bus down to Airlie Beach. I had about an hour and a half to wait in the station, so I listened to some music and just people watched. This is the same terminal that you get the ferry over to Magnetic Island from, so there were a lot of people coming in and out. And there were a lot of…

Nothing day…

Nothing day…

Townsville, Australia, Australia This really was a nothing day. I slept late, went to the supermarket down the street in the sweltering heat, and then went back to the hostel. I stayed at the hostel for the whole day until going out for dinner. I went to an excellent little Thai place down the street from the hostel called Aroi Bangkok Thai Restaurant. It wasn’t a late night and I ended up back at the hostel by about 9pm. The…
