Bad tour of Colca Canyon

Bad tour of Colca Canyon

Arequipa, Peru, South America I had a pretty bad tour today. It was totally disappointing. I got up at 2:45am, and was ready for my pickup at 3:15am. We had a three hour drive to our breakfast stop, and I had the most uncomfortable seat on the bus. It was the last seat, so I didn’t have a choice, but I was over the wheel well, so had no leg room, and then the girl in front of me put…

First day in Arequipa

First day in Arequipa

Arequipa, Peru, South America I woke up this morning at 5am on the bus and realized that we were almost in Arequipa already. This bus must have been flying! I got to the Terminal at 5:30am and hopped in a taxi to go to my hostel. Even though I arrived there at 5:45am, they let me into my room and I was able to take a nap for a couple of hours. The hostel (Hostal Roma Continental) is pretty bad….

Chill day in Cusco

Chill day in Cusco

Arequipa, Peru, South America I had a relatively quiet day in Cusco today. I slept like a baby last night at my hostel, and then arranged to meet Nicole, Scotty, Linda and Drew for Breakfast. We met at this place called Jack’s that had been recommended and it was excellent! I had one of the best breakfast’s I’ve had in South America while I was there. I had huevos rancheros with a strawberry-banana shake. It was awesome! I went back…

Jungle Trek Day 4: MACHU PICCHU!!!

Jungle Trek Day 4: MACHU PICCHU!!!

Cusco, Peru, South America I finally got to see Machu Picchu today, and it was phenomenal! I got up at 4am and got my stuff packed up so I could leave my bag at the hostel for the day while exploring Machu Picchu. I met the rest of the group at 4:45am and we headed down to the bus stop to get the bus up to Machu Picchu from Aguas Calientes. Wilbert recommended we get the bus up there instead…

Jungle Trek Day 3: Zip Lines and Hiking

Jungle Trek Day 3: Zip Lines and Hiking

Aguas Calientes, Peru, South America I had another excellent day of zip lining and hiking today, along part of the original Inca Trail. We started out with a breakfast back at Mama Coca’s at 7am, and then we took a ride for about 15 minutes to the start of the zip lining place. They seemed to be in a hurry to get us through, so they threw the harnesses on us and then we started our 25 minute hike up…

Jungle Trek Day 2: Hiking and Hot springs

Jungle Trek Day 2: Hiking and Hot springs

Santa Teresa, Peru, South America I had a great day of trekking today! We started out with a really good breakfast at the hostel that included crepes with bananas and fresh juice. It turns out that fresh papaya juice smells like vomit though, so it’s not the best drink. We got our energy and headed off for our day of hiking. We got a ride in the back of a truck for about 15 minutes to the start of the…

Jungle Trek Day 1: Biking day

Jungle Trek Day 1: Biking day

Santa Maria, Peru, South America I had an awesome day of biking today! It all started with a really early rise at the hostel in Cusco and a check out at 5:30am. I left my big bag there for when I return from Machu Picchu on Monday night. I walked down to McDonalds on the main square to get picked up by Lorenzo Expeditions. I met a couple of other people on the tour and we got picked up promptly…

Second full day in Cusco

Second full day in Cusco

Cusco, Peru, South America I had another fairly quiet day today, but that’s good considering my next four days should be pretty intense. I went to Pan-tastico for breakfast today and had the best breakfast since I’ve been in South America. I had eggs, good crispy bacon (!), pineapple juice, italian bread that was sliced and grilled with peanut butter and jam on the side, and pancakes! It was awesome! I met up with Karin at 10:15am so we could…

Day tour of Cusco

Day tour of Cusco

Cusco, Peru, South America I had a slow start to the day, but it was pretty nice. I got to take a hot shower at my hostel, which I wasn’t too sure was going to be possible. It’s not the nicest hostel, so I wouldn’t have been surprised if it was only cold showers, but I’m really glad it’s not. It’s pretty chilly here in the morning and the evening, so a cold shower would have been miserable. The hostel…

Bus ride and night in Cusco

Bus ride and night in Cusco

Cusco, Peru, South America The bus ride last night was very comfortable, but the ride was so windy and curvy that I was hardly able to get any sleep. Luckily my seat had an electric port so I was able to use my laptop for the whole ride and finished watching season four of the Walking Dead. At least that helped pass the time. We were supposed to arrive in Cusco at 12:30pm, but at that point we were stopped…
