Uyuni Tour: Day 1

Uyuni Tour: Day 1

Uyuni, Bolivia, South America I’ve had a bit of a weird day today. I woke up at 6am after getting about 15 minutes sleep per hour all through the night. I’m not sure it matters how comfortable the bus is, I just don’t think I can get a good night’s sleep on a bus. We weren’t too far from Uyuni, so I just started checking out the Lonely Planet to see what tour companies they recommended for a desert tour….

Animal Sanctuary and back to La Paz

Animal Sanctuary and back to La Paz

La Paz, Bolivia, South America I had a good day today, but it was pretty long. I woke up a couple of times during the night due to all the jungle noise, and at about 2am I ended up having to get up to find my ear plugs. That helped a lot and I was able to sleep until about 6:30am. I went for my first tour at La Senda Verde at 8am, and it was the bear tour. I…

DEATH ROAD! And La Senda Verde

DEATH ROAD! And La Senda Verde

Yungas de Corani, Bolivia, South America I had an awesome day on the Death Road today! It started out with an early wake up call at Hostal Copacabana, and I met the rest of the group at a restaurant called Little Italy at 7:30am. There was enough time to grab some breakfast and then we headed out at about 7:45am. It was about an hour drive to get to the start of the ride, which was at 4,700m (14,000ft). The…

Day in La Paz… ugh

Day in La Paz… ugh

La Paz, Bolivia, South America Despite this city being a complete craphole, I managed to have a pretty good day anyway. I met up with Gino at 9:30am, we went to compare the two tour companies again and we have booked the Death Road tour for tomorrow with Barracuda. It seems like exactly the same offer, but for 500 bolivianos instead of 750. It was a no-brainer really. We then went on the free walking tour with a company called…

Leaving Lake Titicaca

Leaving Lake Titicaca

La Paz, Bolivia, South America I didn’t exactly sleep in this morning, I was up around 7am, but it was nice to just have a relaxed morning and enjoy my breakfast. I checked out at 10:30am and met up with Gino and we went for a walk in the town. It’s really small, and there isn’t much to see, but we checked out the main cathedral, and then went to a Pan American bakery run by a couple from Chicago….

Walking around Isla del Sol

Walking around Isla del Sol

Copacabana, Bolivia, South America I went to the Isla del Sol today, and it was a little disappointing. The day started out with a great breakfast at the hostel of cereal, yogurt, bread with jam, eggs, and a pancake. It was a pretty good breakfast for a hostel, especially one in Bolivia where I heard the food is disgusting. Good start Bolivia, one point for you. It turns out that I’m in the same hotel as Gino, so we met…

Good bye Peru, Hello Bolivia!!

Good bye Peru, Hello Bolivia!!

Copacabana, Bolivia, South America I got up this morning and got a taxi over to the bus terminal to get my 7:30am bus to Copacabana, Bolivia. It’s a pretty nice bus, considering everyone had told me that all the busses in Bolivia are terrible. This one was fine. I was sat next to a Taiwanese guy named Jason (his english name obviously), and we had a good chat. He’s traveling for a long time as well, so it was good…

Planning and football day

Planning and football day

Puno, Peru, South America I had a nice, quiet day of planning out my next couple of weeks and watching football. It was really nice to relax and not do much today. I walked around the town a little bit and there was some sort of festival going on around the main square. I have no idea what they were celebrating, but there were a lot of colorful outfits and drums, and they all seemed to be having a good…

Day tour of Lake Titicaca and islands

Day tour of Lake Titicaca and islands

Puno, Peru, South America I went on a tour of Lake Titicaca and a couple of islands today, and it was only okay. I got picked up at 6:40am and we made the rounds to pick up the rest of the group from their hotels and then headed over to the port. We got on a tourist boat, there were about fifteen of us, and we headed off into the lake. We had a guide who spoke English and Spanish,…

Bus ride to Puno

Bus ride to Puno

Puno, Peru, South America I got up this morning, packed my bags, got some breakfast, and picked up my bus ticket from the tour agency. My bus was at 10:30am so I headed over to the bus terminal at 10am and hopped on the bus. It was a pretty easy 5.5 hour bus ride to Puno, with only one stop on the way. We got in at 4pm and I got a taxi over to Huaytusive Inn. I’m really impressed…
