Moving on to Barichara with Melissa
Barichara, Colombia, South America
I had a great night’s sleep, and this was the first morning we didn’t have to get out of bed to go to breakfast or anything. Melissa and I could just chill in the room and we met up in Luz Mery’s room around 11am to have some fruit and yogurt for breakfast. We left the aparthotel at midday and started heading to Barichara.
This was just a few hours drive, and it was a beautiful one. We drove past a massive canyon, and through San Gil to get up to this beautiful little village. Melissa booked us a really lovely little hostel near the top of the hill in Barichara, and we got to Mision Santa Barbara Hostal around 4pm. We hung out at the hostel and took a short nap in one of the hammocks, before going out to get a bite to eat.
Melissa found out about this place online called Igua Nauna and it was rated as the number one restaurant in Barichara. That probably isn’t saying much because it’s such a small place, but the dinner was excellent. I had a burger, but instead of on a regular bun, it was on an arepa. It doesn’t get much more Colombian than that! I also had it with a fresh strawberry juice, which was just out of this world. I’m hoping we have time to go back there tomorrow just so I can have another juice.
We walked back through town, got some drinks and ice cream and just sat on the steps of the cathedral on the main square enjoying the nice night. This is a really nice town, and as much fun as I’ve had with all of Melissa’s family for the last two weeks, it’s really nice to be up here alone. Not that I was too nervous or uptight before, but now I feel like I can really relax.
