Montenegro to Bosnia & Herzegovina

Montenegro to Bosnia & Herzegovina

Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Europe

I had a great night sleep last night and woke up at 7am ready to go. I had a whole plan to go to Budva and Sveti Stefan today and then go to Bosnia tomorrow. Well, the weather disagreed with my plan a lot and it was absolutely pissing it down when I woke up. I had a look at the forecast and it’s going to be raining here for the next four days. If I were in a big city with a lot of things to see, that wouldn’t be such a problem, but since I’m in a coastal town known for their summer scenery, I changed my plans…again.

I found out that the only bus to Mostar, Bosnia & Herzegovina was at 2:45pm, so I had plenty of time to catch that. I packed up all my stuff, got the local bus into the town center and got my bus ticket. I had a couple hours to kill so I headed into the old city and got a bite to eat and stayed out of the rain as much as possible.

The bus ride was pretty easy, but involved a lot of border crossings. It seemed like too many for one bus ride. We left Montenegro, crossed into Croatia, then into Bosnia, then back into Croatia, then back into Bosnia again. The whole journey took about five hours and we ended up in Mostar at 8pm. I found my hostel very easily, it was only a three minute walk from the bus station.

I found Majda’s Hostel and it is one of the most welcoming hostels I’ve ever been to. Majda greeted me at the door with a piece of cake and a glass of iced tea. I met a few nice guys that are staying at the hostel as well and we all went out for a good traditional Bosnian dinner. There’s a lot of meat involved in their meals here. I had a big beef burger filled with cheese, and fries, and salad. It was massive. Really good food though. We also had a couple of local beers, which were really good. I couldn’t pronounce the name again if I tried, but it was tasty.

We came back to the hostel and met two girls who are staying at the hostel as well. They’re Canadian but live in France. Very nice girls, and they’ve given a lot of advice about Sarajevo, so that’s helpful considering I am probably heading there tomorrow. It’s pretty late now but I think I’m going to get up tomorrow, look around the city for a few hours and then hop on a bus to Sarajevo. I think there will be a lot more for me to see up there.
