Class and dinner party at Melissa’s

Bogota, Colombia, South America

Today was supposed to be my last day of class, but I’ve enjoyed it so much that I’m going to stay for a couple of days next week as well. Actually, the plans for this weekend and next week changed slightly, so it meant that I was going to be here in Bogota for a few extra days anyway. I could use as much practice as I can get, so I figure the classes will help.

We finished class at 1pm and then a group of seven of us went out for lunch. We went back to the same restaurant as yesterday, Aqui en Santa Fe, and the teacher ordered for all of us again. This time we all had ajiaco. I was happy enough with this choice because I love ajiaco, but it would have been good to try something new. Maybe next week.

I relaxed for the afternoon and then tried to sort out as much stuff as I could for my trips to Ecuador and Peru. There’s a lot of planning that is going into these trips. Not only do I have to find the right tour company for me, but I have to pick the dates for when I want to go even though it’s one and two months in the future. That’s proving to be really difficult for me. I’m not used to planning so far ahead.

Tonight I went to Melissa’s house for a dinner party with a few of her friends. There were seven of us in total, and I had a really good time. All of her friends speak English, which made life really easy for me, and I was able to pick up some great tips for scuba diving. Melissa’s friend Maria knows about all the best places to go diving in Colombia and in Brazil, so I was thrilled to talk to her. She was just back from watching the World Cup in Brazil, so she had some good tips on where to go and what to see when I get there.

We had some awesome indian food that one of Melissa’s friends made for all of us while we sat back and drank and chatted. It was a great night, and just one more time when I’m so thankful that I have a friend here in Melissa. I got a taxi at about 1am to come back to the hotel and get some rest. I have quite a bit of stuff to get done in the morning.
