So bored!

So bored!

Kamala, Thailand, Asia So it rained again today, all day. I don’t mind doing nothing when I feel like I’m choosing to do nothing, but being forced into doing nothing just isn’t as fun. Lynne went down into Kamala today and got a massage, but I just wasn’t feeling it, so I hung back for a bit and then met her in the village after. We had a couple of drinks and a bite to eat at a beachside restaurant,…

More rain…

More rain…

Kamala, Thailand, Asia It rained all day today, so again we didn’t get the chance to do anything. We went down to Kamala for dinner again and that was awesome! Thai food is definitely the best stuff I’ve had on my trip so far. We checked out how much it would be to get mopeds to go scooting around the island and they are pretty cheap ($7 a day), but we just have to hope for some good weather. Fingers…

Monsoon by day, Patong by night

Monsoon by day, Patong by night

Kamala, Thailand, Asia We woke up this morning to hear and see a proper monsoon going outside. It was a little ridiculous how much it was raining. We went for breakfast in the restaurant, which was awesome again, and could see that this rain was not going to let up all day. We played a game of pool in the game room at the hotel and then just spent the rest of the day chilling in the room watching tv….

Doing nothing on the island

Doing nothing on the island

Kamala, Thailand, Asia We got up today and had another unbelievable breakfast. It’s now at the point that I can’t wait for tomorrow just so I can go have breakfast again. It’s a very nice change from hostels where you normally just have white toast with blackcurrant jam, and nothing else. This luxury is very nice. Unfortunately, the weather isn’t as great today and it was pretty overcast all day. Lynne was out in the sun anyway trying to soak…

First full day on Phuket

First full day on Phuket

Kamala, Thailand, Asia I had an awesome night’s sleep at the resort last night. The beds are wicked comfortable and the A/C is set to a perfect temperature to sleep in. I was pretty happy. Then we went to breakfast in the Blue Sea restaurant. This is, by far, the best breakfast I’ve had in Asia. It’s like being at a Denny’s or IHOP, mixed with a P.F. Changs. It has all the normal American breakfast stuff (pancakes, French toast,…

Moving to the islands

Moving to the islands

Kamala, Thailand, Asia I got up this morning at about 8am and got to watch the Sox playing the Royals. Lynne and I packed up our backpacks and grabbed some breakfast downstairs before getting a taxi at 10:30am. We got to the airport within about ten minutes and it was one of the fastest check-ins I’ve ever been through. There was no wait at all, and we were checked in with almost two hours to wait before we took off….

Final day with the elephants

Final day with the elephants

Chiang Mai, Thailand, Asia I woke up this morning after a pretty bad night’s sleep. I got up in the middle of the night and found a massive spider (body about one inch diameter; with the legs about five inches) hanging on the outside of the mosquito net on the bed. I’m not a huge fan of spiders, so this didn’t really sit too well with me. I didn’t see any purpose in trying to move it, because the room…

First day with the elephants

First day with the elephants

Mae Taeng, Thailand, Asia We got up this morning and left our big backpacks at reception in Chiang Mai and grabbed some breakfast at the hostel. We got picked up for our trip at about 8:45am and met the other people on our tour. The rest of the group consisted of Glenn (American solo traveler), Christy and Laura (American friends), Jo (American solo traveler), and Mark and Valeska (Swiss couple). The drive up to the park was about an hour…

Chiang Mai for the day

Chiang Mai for the day

Chiang Mai, Thailand, Asia We arrived in Chiang Mai at about 6:30am, and both of us were exhausted! Neither one of us could get comfortable enough to sleep on the bus, so spent most of the night tossing and turning in our seats. We got a tuk-tuk to Chiang Mai International Youth Hostel and were greeted by the owner Peter about ten minutes after we got there. Unfortunately we weren’t able to check in right away because a room wasn’t…

Temple of the Emerald Buddha

Temple of the Emerald Buddha

Bangkok, Thailand, Asia Today I finally got to see the Emerald Buddha! I got to cross off #48 on my top 100 list, which was the 47th thing I’ve seen. I’m making good progress! We got up at about 9am and started some laundry and grabbed some breakfast downstairs. We had to decide what we were going to do after Chiang Mai, and we decided on a nice resort in Phuket for a week. You can get some awesome deals…
