First full day on Phuket

Kamala, Thailand, Asia

I had an awesome night’s sleep at the resort last night. The beds are wicked comfortable and the A/C is set to a perfect temperature to sleep in. I was pretty happy. Then we went to breakfast in the Blue Sea restaurant. This is, by far, the best breakfast I’ve had in Asia. It’s like being at a Denny’s or IHOP, mixed with a P.F. Changs. It has all the normal American breakfast stuff (pancakes, French toast, eggs, bacon, potatoes…) but it also has some random Asian foods as well, like stir fried chicken, and pad thai with pork. I’m sure the Asians think that eggs and bacon are a strange breakfast food, but come on, pad thai for breakfast? That’s totally weird.

After breakfast we chilled by the pool for a bit so Lynne could get her daily fix of sun, and I got my five minutes and then got out of their before I burnt. We hopped in the shuttle bus around 11pm and went into Kamala. We found a local tailor shop who also does laundry, so we dropped our stuff off their and will come back down tomorrow night to get it. I like how easy doing laundry is. We took a walk down the beach and found a little restaurant to grab a beer and a little bite to eat.

We decided to walk back up to the resort from Kamala and found out that the completely uphill walk is better attempted when it’s not 2pm and the sun is blazing in our faces. It was a very hot and fairly unpleasant walk up the hill, but we got there in the end and the A/C in our room never felt better. We relaxed in the room for most of the afternoon and went down to the lobby for happy hour again. Drinks are a bit pricey here, but at half price they are a bit more manageable.

We had dinner in Blue Sea restaurant again tonight and I had an excellent Thai curry pizza. I made the mistake of eating an entire orange chili pepper and found out that it instantly numbs my mouth and makes my eyes water. The red ones weren’t bad at all, but the orange one, wow! I couldn’t taste anything for a few minutes, but finally got some feeling back in my face and could finish my dinner.

We’re back in the room now and have just started watching season one of Modern Family. Lynne’s never seen it before and I’ve seen every episode about three times, but I love it. Very funny stuff!
