Bye Lynne, and Thailand

Bye Lynne, and Thailand

Nong Khai, Thailand, Asia

I got up this morning to see Lynne off at 6:30am. It’s a sad, sad day. We’ve had a great time travelling through Thailand together, but I’m on my own again to head into Laos. I hung around the hostel today using their wifi to take care of a few things. I have no idea what the internet situation is going to be like in Laos, so I figured I’m safest to use it while I have it.

I went to Siam Paragon Cinema to watch Cowboys and Aliens, which I’ve been looking forward to for a while. It was pretty good. You don’t often see an alien movie that’s set in the past, so that was kind of cool. I grabbed a bite to eat for lunch in the food court and then headed back to the hostel. I left for the train station (Hua Lamphong) at about 6:50pm for my 8pm train, and it gave me plenty of time. I took the BTS to Sala Daeng and then got the Metro straight to the train station. I was there by 7:30pm and my train was already there waiting. The train cars were not in numbered order, so I was confused when I first saw car 9, and then 8, and I was looking for number 11. I just kept walking and finally found car number 11 between 5 and 6. Makes lots of sense, I know.

I found my seat and got comfortable and just waited to meet the person sitting across from me. I knew that it could go either way, either I could have a nice person who spoke English, or I would have someone to whom I wouldn’t speak one word for the 12 hour ride. Luckily, Palli from Iceland took the seat across from me. He’s a producer who lives in Bangkok and is heading over the border to renew his visa for Thailand from the embassy in Vientiane. We only got about an hour into the trip before the cabin steward came through and turned our seats into beds and I have settled in nicely. It’s a very comfortable bed with total privacy on this lower bunk. I’m just going to watch a view TV shows and movies and try to get some sleep. Let’s hope it’s a smooth ride.
