I haven’t done a lot over the last few days, but they have managed to be very eventful anyway. I went to see The Tourist on Sunday night, which was very good. I enjoy watching movies that take place in cities I have visited. This movie brought back memories of my trip through Italy with my Dad in 2006. I never got to meet Angelina Jolie and get caught up in a web of lies, but I still remember it being a good time.
On Monday morning, Lisa and I went up to the rental property office first thing to hand in our applications in person. We were told that we would find out sometime on Tuesday if we were chosen or not, but we couldn’t wait around in the hopes that we would get picked. So we decided to go view another couple of apartments that day just in case. We saw two more apartments that look like they were tailored more toward students than normal working people. We weren’t impressed. This left both of us praying on Monday night that we would get good news on Tuesday morning. Our rental agent called first thing in the morning to tell us that we were one of the few options the owner was looking at and that we would have to wait until later that day to find out if we got it. We had to wait until about 6pm to get the phone call from Cary (our rental agent), but he had good news. We’d been chosen and now just needed to sign the paperwork to make it official!
Tuesday morning we set off to find a way to get bank cheques drafted when we didn’t even have bank accounts here. We were afraid this was going to be a snag in our plan, but it turned out to be very easy and we get them at the first bank we walked in to. We had our meeting with Cary, signed the papers, gave him the cheques and now we just have to wait until Saturday to pick up the keys and get in there!
After our meeting I headed down to the NGV (National Gallery of Victoria) to see a few exhibits that were on. The self-portrait and Stormy Weather exhibits had some impressive pieces in them. I was not as impressed with the Joseph Brown collection and aboriginal art. Still, I suppose it can’t hurt trying to broaden my horizons.
Lisa and I went out for a celebratory dinner at Taco Bill’s and threw back a few margaritas. Just a few more days and I will be settled in to my own apartment and can stop living out of suitcases. I can’t wait!!!
