Extremely quiet day in Cordoba
Cordoba, Argentina, South America
I had a full day in Cordoba today, with crappy weather. I can’t believe the change in weather from yesterday to today. Yesterday it was 32*C (90*F) and sunny. Today was 13*C (55*F) and rainy. Also, it’s Sunday. This was my first experience of an Argentinian Sunday, and I found out that EVERYTHING is closed. It was out of control. I had to search the streets in the center for about 20 minutes before I could find a restaurant that was open and serving breakfast. And by breakfast I mean croissants, and only croissants.
I tried to visit a few tourist sites, but almost everything I wanted to see was closed. Since I didn’t have wifi at the hostel, Melissa was nice enough to do some research for me and give me a list of places to check out for the day. Of a list of about five places to visit, only one church was open for me to go inside. It was a pretty nice church though, so it definitely was not a waste. I also had a walk through a park where a marathon was finishing, and just then the weather started to clear up, but only for a short time. At least it was nice for the people celebrating the end of the race.
I ended up going back to the mall I found yesterday to see what was on at the cinema. It seemed like a pretty good way to waste some time on a crappy day when everything else in the city is closed. There were three movies that I was interested in seeing: Dumb and Dumber To, Horrible Bosses 2, and the newest Hunger Games movie. I was really happy to find out that in Argentina, all of the movies are in English, and then subtitled in Spanish. That’s perfect for me! The timing worked out perfectly for me to go see Horrible Bosses 2, and I was very happy with it. I thought it was hilarious! I think I laughed out loud at least ten times.
After the movie I went back to the hostel to pick up my bags and head over to the bus terminal. I have to say, I’m not too upset to be leaving Cordoba. I wasn’t overly impressed by this city. The weather didn’t help, and then having a really crappy hostel made it a lot worse, but there wasn’t enough interesting stuff to see in the city to keep me interested.
I’m on an overnight bus now that should last about twelve hours and get me in to Mendoza at about 9am. It’s a nice bus at least, but I’ve still yet to find the elusive Full Cama bus with a full bed you can lay down on. I keep buying the most expensive tickets I can find, but I keep getting these semi-cam busses where the seats recline, but not to a full bed. I really hope I can get one though, they sound awesome!
