Travel day to Egypt
Cairo, Egypt, Africa
There’s not really a whole lot to write today because all we did is travel. We woke up in Rome, packed up our stuff and headed straight to the airport for noon. We made sure to leave early to get the car back in time. We followed signs for “Car rental returns” and it said that we had to go to Garage B. So we drove through Garage B like a couple of idiots before finally asking someone where we needed to be. It turns out if you rented from National rent-a-car, you had to go to Garage C. Nice of them to tell us that! We made it though and got the car back to them without a problem.
So we sat and waited for our plane to board and Gate G1, and we were right in front of the check-in gate. Until 5 minutes before the flight was about to board, they changed it to G2 and we were stuck in the middle of the pack! Unbelievable! Ah well, we had an exit row and managed to find space for our bags in the overhead bin, so it was all good.
We arrived in Cairo, luckily, to a Contiki guide standing there waiting for us. We got our bags and hopped in the shuttle bus to head to the hotel. It was easily the most ridiculous car ride I have ever been on! Even after being through Morocco and Istanbul, this was the most insane driving I had ever seen. The drivers managed to turn a 3 lane highway into 5 lanes and all were driving inches from each other. It was absolutely manic, but we made it to the hotel, had some dinner and went straight to bed as we have an early rise at 5:45am tomorrow!
