On to Madrid

On to Madrid

Madrid, Spain, Europe

I got up at 8am with the intention of going to visit these two old churches outside the city. Unfortunately, when I woke up and looked out the window, I realized that it was pouring buckets. I don’t mind if it’s not the greatest weather, but I really didn’t feel like walking around in the pouring rain before I had to get on a bus for five and a half hours. I made the executive decision that I would just go back to bed and someday I will come back here to see these churches, and I will also be able to go to the coast and visit Gijon as well. I’ve heard good things about that town, but I just don’t have the time on this trip.

I hung out till noon, got a bite to eat, and then caught my bus to Madrid. This must be considered a long haul bus journey, because it was the nicest bus I’ve been on in Spain. It had wifi, which actually worked pretty well, and each seat had it’s own touchscreen TV. Unfortunately for me, every movie was in Spanish, so I wasn’t able to watch anything, but it was still nice that they gave everyone that option. I did use the screen to play some solitaire for a while, so it wasn’t completely wasted on me.

I arrived in Madrid at 7pm and Viviana was nice enough to pick me up at the station. It was really good to see her and also really nice not to have to hassle with public transport to get to her place. We arrived at her apartment, dropped my stuff off and headed out for dinner at my favorite place in Madrid, Phuket Thai. I hadn’t had Thai food in a few months, and this was excellent.

We came back to the apartment after and Vivi had to get ready for bed as she works at 7am, so I set up camp in the living room and I’m just watching some TV shows on my laptop. It’s nice to be back visiting with Vivi, and tomorrow I have the task of finding the Cuban Embassy and trying to get a visa sorted for next week. Hopefully it won’t take too long…
