Long travel day to Meteora

Long travel day to Meteora

Kalambaka, Greece, Europe

Today was a long day of travelling, but I met some great people, so that helped a lot. I checked out of my hotel in Delphi at 9:30am and went down to the “bus station” down the street. I got my ticket for €9.10 to Lamia. I went outside to some cafe seats to wait for the bus which was coming at 10am and a lovely American couple invited me to sit with them.

Sheila and Rob are from Montana and are travelling around Greece for a few weeks. They are some of the nicest people I’ve ever met on the road. They happened to be coming to Meteora as well, so we travelled all day together, which was really nice. We had to get our bus to Lamia, then get another ticket for a bus to Trikala. We arrived in Lamia at 12:30pm and had missed the bus at noon, so we had to wait for the next bus at 2pm. We bought the last two beers they had in the station and just chilled for the next hour and a half waiting for the bus. It was a perfect time to have some travel companions because on my own it would have been pretty boring.

We got our bus to Trikala and then had to get our last ticket for a bus to Kalambaka. This is the village closest to Meteora and I had already found a hotel for the night online. After seven hours of travelling from Delphi to Kalambaka, Sheila, Rob and I found Toti’s Boutique Hotel where I am staying for the night. They decided to stay at Toti’s as well, and ti think it was an excellent choice. The hotel is a little more expensive than I’ve been paying elsewhere (€25), but this hotel is really nice, and in a great location. The owners of the place (the Toti sisters) seem very nice and helpful.

We all dropped our bags off at the hotel and headed into town for a drink. We found the town square and a perfect place to have a couple of Alfa beers. We went out for dinner at a place called Pizzaland. Despite the really bad name, they actually had really good pizza. We finished up in town and headed back to the hotel. It was a really nice day and night getting to know Sheila and Rob. Hopefully tomorrow we’ll hang out for a bit while checking out some of the monasteries in Meteora as well. They really are great people.

The only gripe I would have with this hotel is that it’s 11pm now and the wifi at the hotel doesn’t work. I asked the owner of the hotel about 30 minutes ago and they said it should start working after a router reset. It hasn’t. That annoys me.
