Hangover day, Light show at night

Hong Kong, Hong Kong, Asia

I woke up very hungover today. I guess I’m just not used to drinking very much, so the combination of Leffe, Tiger, Jack & Coke, 7&7 and more Tiger just didn’t agree with me. Regardless, I got up at 7:30am so I could go down to the Chinese embassy to apply for my visa. Luckily Danielle was heading there as well, so she showed me the way. It was a fairly easy process, it just took a bit of patience in the waiting room, but I was in and out of there in about two hours. The embassy is closed tomorrow for Hong Kong Day, so I had to do a rush delivery, which bumped up the price, plus I applied for a double entry visa and that cost more too. The total cost for me is going to be $840HK ($108US). The hostel was going to charge me $1100HK ($140US) for a single entry returned in three days. I’m glad I looked into it!

I came back to the room after leaving my passport with the embassy so I could recover a bit. Tom was hanging out in the room still and neither one of us could be bothered to do much of anything. The weather wasn’t particularly great today, so I didn’t feel too bad about wasting most of it inside. We finally mustered up enough courage to go out for a bite to eat and do something productive with our day. We found a local TGI Fridays and had dinner at about 6:30pm. It was pretty expensive, probably more so than back home actually, but I justified it by saying it was my one meal for the day, so the cost split over three meals wouldn’t be so bad.

We made our way over to the Star Ferry terminal on the Kowloon Harbour to watch the infamous Hong Kong Harbour Light Show. It kicked off at 8pm and it was pretty spectacular. It’s similar to the light/laser show they do at Disney World, but this is just all on corporate buildings that make up the iconic HK skyline. Every building is lined with lights that blink and change color, and it’s all put to music. It was very impressive, the only bad thing was that it only lasted about 12-15 minutes.

I was feeling really tired by the time it finished so I decided to just head back to the hostel and chill for the rest of the night. Tom went over to the Hong Kong side to see a little bit more on his last night in the city before heading back to Manchester. I’m going to try to do more tomorrow, I should be feeling better by then…
