F1 Australian Grand Prix – Day 2
Melbourne, Australia, Australia
Today was a more eventful day on and off the track. I went over to the Crown Casino Sports Bar for 10am and was lucky enough to get the UCONN game on the big screen tv. I’ve watched their last few games here and every time I have gotten the game, with audio, on the big screen all to myself. It’s been awesome!
UCONN played another great game and Kemba Walker was just ridiculous again. The Huskies won 74-67 and advance to the Elite 8 on Sunday morning. It was an awesome game to see and I can’t wait to see them match up against Arizona!!
I headed straight over to Albert Park from the casino and caught the end of the first practice session. This was the first time I got to see and hear an F1 car, wow those things are loud! These were individually going out one at a time randomly, I can’t imagine what it will be like on Sunday when there are 24 of them lined up at once! Even though it was just practice, it was really good for me to see because I was able to start recognizing some drivers in their cars, which is not easy when they blow by you at 200mph.
Unlike Nascar where all the cars look completely different and have huge numbers on the front and sides, F1 cars are very different. Each team has two identical cars and the only way to tell them apart is by the helmets the drivers wear. As an outsider this is a very different thing to get used to because I keep wanting to look for a car number, but there just aren’t any.
We watched the F1 cars run their two practice sessions, and we also caught some of the V8 supercars. It’s funny to see these cars go around the track after seeing the F1 cars, because even though they are going over 150mph, it looks like they are slow. They are still pretty noisy though.
I didn’t get up to much after leaving the track. Just headed home and I’m getting ready for another day at the track tomorrow. Should be a bit more interesting because they have qualifying laps to see where they’ll sit for the race on Sunday. Should be good!
