Day at Mole Beach; Books & Beers at night

Barra da Lagoa, Brazil, South America

I had another great night’s sleep last night and slept pretty late again. It was a very similar day to yesterday where I relaxed in the morning, and then went to meet up with Graeme and Hillary. Today we tried a different beach called Mole Beach. This one is in between where I’m staying and where Graeme and Hillary are staying. I walked over there only to realize that it is up a huge hill, and then down the other side. It wouldn’t have been bad at all, if it weren’t for the sweltering heat and the sun beating straight down on me.

It took about 35 minutes to walk to the beach and I got there at the same time as my Canadian friends. Much like yesterday, we hung out on the beach for a few hours, and I tried to avoid getting sunburnt as much as possible. This beach is much more beautiful than the one we were at yesterday, and it wasn’t as busy. I liked this beach much better. I couldn’t take more than a few hours of the sun, even though the breeze coming off the water did a great job of killing the heat and humidity.

I walked back to the hotel and got a much needed shower and relaxed for a bit before heading over to Lagoa da Concecia to meet up with Graeme and Hillary again. I had to go over to that town to find an ATM and then met the other two at a bar/restaurant called Books & Beers. It was a cool place where the menus were books that were parodies of real books, like mine was Moby Drink. The menu was about 100 pages and was half Portuguese and half English. About half of the book was just listing the beers they have. Almost all of them are brewed in Brazil, but are from German microbrews that are down here. It’s really bizarre, but the beers are really good.

We shared a few different kinds of beers there, but since it was quite expensive, we didn’t hang out too late at night. Plus, it was a really busy bar and quite noisy, so it wasn’t the ideal place to sit around and try to have a conversation. We stayed till about 10:30pm and then I grabbed a bus and headed back to my pousada. I’m not sure how late the busses run here, but I knew I didn’t want to miss the last one. There aren’t many cabs here and it would have been a LONG walk back here at night. So I’m pretty glad I’m back here now and can get a good night’s sleep again. I like it here.
