Asuncion to Ciudad Del Este to Puerto Iguazu
Puerto Iguazu, Argentina, South America
My flight to Asuncion went exactly as expected, and I had a three hour layover until my flight to Ciudad Del Este. I had a couple of movies on my tablet, so that helped pass the time. I got into Ciudad Del Este at about 11am, and then had to try and find my way to Argentina. I had read that there were busses from the airport into the center of Ciudad Del Este, but this is not exactly true. Apparently there are three busses per day, and the next one was at 3pm. I was forced to get a taxi, and it wasn’t going to cost that much more to get the taxi all the way to Puerto Iguazu, so that’s what I did.
It was about a 40 minute ride to get to the Paraguayan border office. They were a bit dubious as to why I just flew in and was already leaving, but I ended up getting through okay. We then had to wait about 45 minutes for the next ferry, and it was a pretty cool place to be standing. I was standing on the side of the river in Paraguay. Across the river to the left was Brazil, and across the river to the right was Argentina. That’s the first time I’ve been able to see three countries from one place.
The taxi brought me to Guembe Hostel around 1:30pm, and they showed me to my bed in the six bed dorm. There was no one else there, so I got to relax and get some rest in the air conditioning after a pretty long night of traveling. I went for a little walk around the town of Puerto Iguazu, but there’s not much to the town. It’s a very small place, so I just grabbed a bite to eat, got some information on how to get to the falls tomorrow morning. I’m going to get up early because I think I could be out there for a while tomorrow. This place is supposed to be amazing, and I can’t wait to see it!
