ANTARCTICA: Second day at sea
Drake Passage, Antarctica, Antarctica
Today was our second day at sea, and it was another rough one. Last night while I was sleeping, everything that was on the desk next to my bed slid off and hit me in the face. The last thing to hit me was my tripod that got me right in the eye. That was when I decided to finally get up and take everything off the desk and put it on the floor. I just don’t understand why they don’t cover all these surfaces with the anti-slip mats. They should certainly do that to the dining room tables and the desks in the rooms.
We had one more lecture today, and it was by the Scottish guy named Bruce. He is not a fun guy. He is very serious, and quite boring during a lecture. This one was down in the presentation room, and we had the motion of the ship, and Bruce’s boring talk about seals putting us to sleep. I think I fell asleep about five times in the 45 minute chat. I got a little bit of information about some of the animals we are going to encounter on this trip. I can’t wait to see a leopard seal. I really hope we can see one devour a penguin. That would be awesome!
We had dinner with Reuben and Ainsley, and some other folks from the ship. We wanted to go up to the bar after dinner, but found out that Jonathan Chester was giving a fireside chat tonight, and that made us think twice about going. We didn’t really want to sit through that, but we didn’t have anywhere else to hang out, so we went anyway. We were right though, it was really boring. The chat was supposed to be about The Last Huskey, but it turned out being all about Chester and how he took he hardly even mentioned a huskey. Boooooooring!
We hung out at the bar for a while and now we’re heading to bed for another choppy night at sea. Tomorrow morning we will hopefully wake up to the sight of Antarctica for the first time! It’s finally happening!!
