Another day in Kuta

Another day in Kuta

Tuban, Indonesia, Asia

I woke up this morning to a rather disappointing text message. Andrea wasn’t feeling well so she wasn’t up for going to Ubud for the day. The trip is too expensive to go on my own, so I didn’t end up getting to see it today. I did book a private tour of Bali for tomorrow though, and one of the stops is in Ubud to visit the Monkey Forest, so at least I’ll get to see it then.

I had breakfast (toast and jam) at the hotel and met another guest travelling alone. Esther (from Holland) is here for a month on her own to travel around Bali by bicycle. She is a lovely lady who is very funny, and quite adventurous to be riding a bike around this island by herself. The drivers here are a bit mental, but I’m sure she’ll get to see a lot of the island that most people don’t get to see.

I ended up just spending the rest of the day down at Kuta Beach again. I checked out a few of the markets but didn’t see anything worth spending money on, or carrying around with me. Of course I went for another massage because for $6, I think I’d be stupid not to have one every day! I made my way back to the beach for sunset again. It wasn’t a clear night again, so I wasn’t able to see the sun disappear into the horizon yet again, but maybe I can try tomorrow one last time.

I went back to the hostel and chatted with Esther for a while about where she’s been and where she’s going. It was really nice to meet her at the hotel because it’s not as easy to meet people in Bali as everywhere else so far. Since there aren’t hostels, you aren’t forced into social situations as much as in other cities. We had a good laugh in the courtyard of our hotel and then called it a night relatively early. I have a tour starting at 8:30am tomorrow and Esther is getting an early start on her bike tour. At least tomorrow I’ll get to see a bit more of the island.
