F1 Australian Grand Prix – Day 3

F1 Australian Grand Prix – Day 3

Melbourne, Australia, Australia

Today was the most interesting day at the track so far, but also pretty miserable. The weather was on the edge of raining all day long. I had gone out last night to buy a proper rain jacket, but it never actually rained long enough for me to use it today. It was just one of those annoying days when it was really cloudy and rained a bit, but just enough to annoy you and not actually get you wet.

I did get to see the qualifying laps for the F1 race though, and that was very cool. There were three different sessions, 20 mins, 15 mins, and 10 mins. Each of the drivers had to go out in each session and post their best possible times for a lap. In the first session, both of the HRT team drivers were too slow to stay within the 107% buffer of the leader’s time, so they are not allowed to race tomorrow. The bottom seven drivers are dropped out of the qualifier and the top 17 drivers go into the next heat. After that heat, the bottom seven are dropped again and the top ten drivers run the last heat to determine where they will start on the grid in tomorrow’s race.

Much to Lisa’s delight, Sebastian Vettel absolutely dominated all day and won the pole position for tomorrow. It almost seems unfair how much faster he is than everyone else. I just don’t understand it. Regardless, he will be in the number one spot at the start of tomorrow’s race. I was pulling for Jeson Button but he will have to start in the fourth spot for the big race. I suppose it could have been worse.

I’m also not sure how it happened because it was so cloudy and rainy today, but I’ve finally managed to get sunburnt in Australia. I was in Queensland for almost a month and spent a lot of time on the water, but one day in Melbourne and I’m beet red. Not cool!
