Train to Salzburg

Train to Salzburg

Salzburg, Austria, Europe

I got to see some really beautiful scenery today on my way to Salzburg. I got the train from Ljubljana at 9:22am and I had one transfer at Villach. It only took 4.5 hours to get to Salzburg, and the mountainous scenery was stunning on the way here. You could absolutely see that this is where The Sound of Music was set. I got really lucky with the weather again, and had nothing but sunshine all day.

My hostel is right near the train station, so it was really easy for me to find. It seems like a decent place, and not too outrageous at €24 a night for a dorm. It seems like a really busy place, but it seems like all hostels are really busy now. It looks like high season is really in full swing now. I was a bit stressed about figuring out where to go next because I had looked at going to Zurich next, but the only hostels I can find are €45 per night for an 8 bed dorm. That’s just ridiculous. I decided that instead of going west and then north, I’m going to travel north first, then west, and then come back south. So my new plan is Prague, Dresden, Berlin, Hamburg, and then over to the Netherlands.

Once I booked my bus for tomorrow night, an overnight bus to Prague, I felt a lot better and could relax a bit. I went out for a self-walking tour of Salzburg and it’s a nice little town. I spent about 2.5 hours walking around the city and I think I saw most of the sights. I grabbed a bite to eat at a little cafe in town and then came back to the hostel to try and get my plans a bit more solidified. Since I have all day tomorrow until my bus at midnight, I am going to try to get out to the Eagle’s Nest, which was Hitler’s bunker in WWII. It sounds really interesting, and it’s supposed to be beautiful scenery up there as well. Hopefully I can get there!
