Delphi, the center of the world
Delphi, Greece, Europe
I had an early start today with my 6am wake up call to get ready to go. I left my hotel at 6:45am to get to the bus station and hoped I would be able to get a ticket to get to Delphi without a problem. Lucky for me, it wasn’t too busy so I got the 7:30am bus and it was a pretty easy 3 hour ride to Delphi. I walked around the small town for about 15 minutes until I could find my hotel, but it was a good way to see the town anyway. They let me check in at 10:45am, which was awesome, so I dropped my bags in my room and headed out to see the ruins at Delphi.
Delphi was another site on my “100 Things to See Before I Die” list so I was pretty excited to see it. It was pretty cool to see, but I have to say, it’s not on my list of Top Ruins I’ve seen in the world. It was interesting to go to the museum and see the ruins where the Oracle used to give their answers from the Gods. The weather was so-so today. It was raining when I first got into Delphi, then it cleared up, then it rained again. The whole time I was walking around in the ruins I wasn’t sure if it was going to rain or stay dry. Not the best day for sightseeing, but I’m only here for one day so I had to make it count.
I walked around the village of Delphi for a couple hours this afternoon and just admired the views. It’s a cool little village perched up on the side of a mountain. The hotel I’m staying in has a great view down the mountain to a town on the Gulf of Corinth as well. As nice as this place is, and I really do like it, there just isn’t enough to do here to keep me for another day. Tomorrow morning a bus leaves for Meteora, so I’m going to give that a shot. I think it takes about six hours to get up there, but from what I hear, the views are well worth it. I’ll report back tomorrow with my findings…
