Singapore at night

Singapore, Singapore, Asia

Today started out with breakfast at the resort and then a bit of relaxation at the hostel before heading back into the city for another day of sightseeing. Of course I didn’t forget to call Nikki and wish her a happy birthday. I got the first birthday wish in there, which was easy to do with this time difference. So I hopped on the train at about 1pm and headed into the city.

I grabbed a bite to eat at the Raffles City Mall and then had a walk down the Singapore River and into the CBD. I knew I wanted to be in the city for sunset and I thought there couldn’t be a better place in the center to see it from than the Marina Bay Sands Hotel and their Sky Park on the roof. I walked around the marina to find the entrance to the Sky Park and it brought me through the Marina Bay Sands Shopping Center. It is one of the nicest malls I have ever been through. Every item in there was out of my price range, but it was a beautiful place to go through, plus it was about -14* in there, so that was nice.

I found the entrance to the Sky Park and paid my $20 to get up there. It was a little more than I expected to pay, but I figured it would be worth it for the view. I’m glad I went up there because it was amazing up there! As a non-hotel guest I didn’t get access to all the restaurants or the infinity pool, which was a shame, but the viewing platform alone was excellent. I hung out up there from 4:30pm till about 8pm just taking pictures.

I met a few Danish girls who were travelling around like me, and they had just come from Kuala Lumpur so I managed to get some tips from them. The sunset wasn’t the nicest I’ve seen, but we did get some good colors in the sky for a few minutes. The most impressive view came at about 7:30pm when the sky was totally dark and the city was so well lit. Unfortunately, the Sky Park doesn’t allow anyone to use a tripod on the viewing platform, which I don’t understand at all. This made it a little more difficult to take good night shots, but I still managed a few. The girls headed off to try their luck at getting into the hotel pool. For three blonde haired-blue eyed Danish girls, I bet they didn’t have a problem.

From there I walked around to the Esplanade for some more picture opportunities and then got a 9:30pm train back to Pasir Ris. By the time I got back to the resort it was 10pm, but I was lucky to find one of the Thai restaurants was still open so I could get some dinner. I tried a chicken and rice dish that was excellent, but just a little spicy. I think I’m going to have to get used to that though, it seems like most Asian foods are going to have a kick to them!

I am back in the hostel now and just found out that my roommate Jun is an actor in Korea and has apparently been in some very famous movies over there. He told me the names of a couple, so I’m going to have to check one out when I can. But now I’m tired and ready for bed. Still not sure what I’m going to do tomorrow, but I’m sure I’ll figure something out.
