Heading north to Thessaloniki

Heading north to Thessaloniki

Thessaloniki, Greece, Europe I got up today and got all my stuff ready to move on from Meteora. As much as I loved it there, I have to get a move on and head north. I had breakfast at the hotel and then got a bus over to Trikala. I had to wait there for about a half hour and then get another bus to Thessaloniki. It was a full bus and I had an assigned seat in the worst…

Incredible day in Meteora

Incredible day in Meteora

Kalambaka, Greece, Europe Today was an absolutely brilliant day! It was just one of those days where everything seemed to go right. I like those days. It started out with a 7:30am wake up call, breakfast at 8am with Sheila and Rob downstairs at the hotel, and then a bus from Kalambaka up to Meteora. The bus was scheduled to pick us up from Central Square at 9am and it showed up at 9:20am, but that was no big deal….

Long travel day to Meteora

Long travel day to Meteora

Kalambaka, Greece, Europe Today was a long day of travelling, but I met some great people, so that helped a lot. I checked out of my hotel in Delphi at 9:30am and went down to the “bus station” down the street. I got my ticket for €9.10 to Lamia. I went outside to some cafe seats to wait for the bus which was coming at 10am and a lovely American couple invited me to sit with them. Sheila and Rob…

Delphi, the center of the world

Delphi, the center of the world

Delphi, Greece, Europe I had an early start today with my 6am wake up call to get ready to go. I left my hotel at 6:45am to get to the bus station and hoped I would be able to get a ticket to get to Delphi without a problem. Lucky for me, it wasn’t too busy so I got the 7:30am bus and it was a pretty easy 3 hour ride to Delphi. I walked around the small town for…

Very quiet Easter Sunday

Very quiet Easter Sunday

Athens, Greece, Europe So they weren’t kidding. On Easter, everything in Athens in shut! It made for a very quiet day for me, but that was okay. I chilled at the hotel and watched a few episodes of Entourage, and looked ahead at where to go next. I’m getting a bus to Delphi tomorrow morning, and then I think I’m going to head up to Meteora. I left the hotel a couple of times just to take a walk and…

Busy day in Athens

Busy day in Athens

Athens, Greece, Europe Today was a busy day, but a really good day. I’m glad I decided to spend another day in Athens. This city is nicer than I remember it being. This morning was a bit of a rough start at Zeus Hostel. It was really cold last night and there was no heat in the room, so it was pretty uncomfortable to sleep in. I got up at 7:30am to get a sharp start to the day and…

Goodbye Turkey, Hello Greece!

Goodbye Turkey, Hello Greece!

Athens, Greece, Europe I’ve been on the road for about a month now, but today feels like the beginning of a whole new trip. Before I left Edinburgh I had the first few weeks of my trip planned out. Except for a few changes, I stuck to the plan as I had already booked almost everything (flights, accommodation, etc). As of today, the next travel plan I have booked is my flight from Madrid to Havana on 15 July. Until…

Last full day in Istanbul

Last full day in Istanbul

Istanbul, Turkey, Europe I really enjoyed my last day in Istanbul. It was pretty relaxing, but nice. I got up and had breakfast with George again at the hostel and then packed up my things. The guy from yesterday was sleeping late again, but today I was having none of it and just turned the light on when I started to get packed up. It was 10am after all, so I don’t think I was being too douche by turning…

Sunny day for a Bosphorus cruise

Sunny day for a Bosphorus cruise

Istanbul, Turkey, Europe Today was a nice chill day in Istanbul. I got up this morning at about 8am and had breakfast in the hostel. It was just a simple breakfast. Cereal, hard boiled eggs, bread, Nutella, and cucumbers. I sat with George, the American guy in my dorm, and chatted for a while. He’s in his 50’s and has been travelling around the world for almost two years. It was cool to hear about the places he’s been and…

Back to Istanbul

Back to Istanbul

Istanbul, Turkey, Europe Today was another travel day. Unfortunately I didn’t get to do much today, but it was pretty relaxing anyway. I checked out of my hotel at 11am and got my shuttle to the airport in Kayseri. The plane took off on time and I was in Istanbul by 3:30pm. Unfortunately, my last hostel was full, so I had to find another one. There was one right across the street so I’m staying here for the next two…
