Eagle’s Nest in Bavaria

Eagle’s Nest in Bavaria

Salzburg, Austria, Europe I got to spend another day in the beautiful mountains today, and it was great. I packed up my stuff and left it in a locker at my hostel for the day and went out to catch a bus. I got the 840 bus from outside of Mirabell Palace and it was a nice 45 minute ride up to Brechtesgaden. I then switched onto the 838 bus to go to Hintereck, which is at the base of…

Train to Salzburg

Train to Salzburg

Salzburg, Austria, Europe I got to see some really beautiful scenery today on my way to Salzburg. I got the train from Ljubljana at 9:22am and I had one transfer at Villach. It only took 4.5 hours to get to Salzburg, and the mountainous scenery was stunning on the way here. You could absolutely see that this is where The Sound of Music was set. I got really lucky with the weather again, and had nothing but sunshine all day….

Lakes Bohinj and Bled

Lakes Bohinj and Bled

Ljubljana, Slovenia, Europe Today was an excellent day, spent mostly in nature. It started with a bit of a hiccup when I was told yesterday that the busses to Bled go every hour on the hour from Ljubljana. I went to get the 8am bus only to find out that is the only hour that a bus does NOT leave. So I had to sit at the bus station and waste an hour. Finally I got moving at 9am, and…

Walking tour of Ljubljana

Walking tour of Ljubljana

Ljubljana, Slovenia, Europe Today was a lot of wasted time trying to get things done, but I did get to see a lot of Ljubljana and it is a beautiful city. I spent a few hours walking around trying to find a place where I could do my laundry, and get my haircut. These are pretty easy things to find in most cities, but for some reason, they proved to be nearly impossible tasks here. I was never able to…

Heading south to Slovenia

Heading south to Slovenia

Ljubljana, Slovenia, Europe I had to get up at 7am to get ready to go today. I was out of the hostel by 7:30am and got to the bus station with plenty of time to get my Eurolines bus from the Erdberg station in Vienna. The bus was mostly empty, and it had wifi on board, so it made for a pretty easy ride to Ljubljana. We stopped once about half way for a thirty minute break, which I was…

Rainy day and Phil-Harmonious night

Rainy day and Phil-Harmonious night

Vienna, Austria, Europe Today was a pretty crappy and rainy day here in Vienna. The weather made it pretty difficult to do anything worthwhile, so I spent most of the day inside. I left the hostel around 11am and went to check out the rest of the city center that I missed yesterday. It turns out that I saw almost everything yesterday, so there wasn’t much more to see today. I wasn’t feeling in a very museum-y mood, so I…

Vienna is beautiful

Vienna is beautiful

Vienna, Austria, Europe I really got to see what a beautiful city Vienna is today. I got up around 7:30am, took my time getting ready and used the Internet down in the lobby for a bit. It’s so annoying that I can’t just use it in my room. I left the hostel around 10am and walked into the city center. The first place I came across was Belvedere palace. It was stunning. I walked past it yesterday but never went…

Morning in Bratislava; Evening in Vienna

Morning in Bratislava; Evening in Vienna

Vienna, Austria, Europe I ended up staying up until just after midnight watching the Red Sox win to stop their ten game losing stretch. I figured that while I have good wifi and the Sox were playing at a sensible time for me, I might as well take advantage of it. I’m glad I did. I then woke up at 6am because my windows had white blinds that did a horrible job of blocking out any light. In fact, I…

Travel day to Bratislava

Travel day to Bratislava

Bratislava, Slovakia, Europe Today was pretty much just a travel day. I got the Polskibus from Krakow at 10:30am to another Polish city called Katowice. I had about an hour and a half to wait so I grabbed some lunch at the bus station and then hopped on my next bus to Bratislava. It was about a five and a half hour ride and it was pretty nice. The scenery once we got into Slovakia was really nice. There were…

Auschwitz and Birkenau

Auschwitz and Birkenau

Krakow, Poland, Europe So as expected, today was a pretty tough day. Of course I can’t complain about anything I had to go through today, but witnessing the struggles that so many people had to go through for so long. I got up at 6:30am, mainly just because the sun was shining in my face and there was no curtain to block it. I figured that since I was already awake, I might as well get an early start to…
