Travel day to Egypt

Travel day to Egypt

Cairo, Egypt, Africa There’s not really a whole lot to write today because all we did is travel. We woke up in Rome, packed up our stuff and headed straight to the airport for noon. We made sure to leave early to get the car back in time. We followed signs for “Car rental returns” and it said that we had to go to Garage B. So we drove through Garage B like a couple of idiots before finally asking…

Last day in Rome…

Last day in Rome…

Rome, Italy, Europe With today being our last full day in Rome, we had to make it count. We woke up early and headed straight for the Coliseum as we hadn’t been over to that side of town yet. We were approached by LOADS of tour operators trying to sell us on a tour of the Coliseum but we brushed them all off because we figured it probably wasn’t worth it. After finding out that the wait to get a…

Ruins and near-death!

Ruins and near-death!

Rome, Italy, Europe Today was an early rise for us as we had a lot of traveling ahead of us. It was today that made me really thankful that Ryan agreed to drive in Italy! We first drove 2.5 hours down to Pompeii which was the easy part. We spent a few hours walking around the ruins of Pompeii which was pretty impressive. It’s amazing how big this city was, considering it was built in 2nd century BC. Plus, it…

Laundry day :-(

Laundry day :-(

Rome, Italy, Europe Today was the day we were dreading this whole trip: Laundry day! Luckily for us we found a Laundromat just down the road from our hotel, so we bagged all our stuff up and went down there expecting to spend the next few hours waiting and folding. We showed up and fortunately there was a guy working there who said that it would be the same price to leave the clothes with him and just come back…

Travel day to Rome

Travel day to Rome

Rome, Italy, Europe Today we made our way to Rome. It was about a three-hour drive, so we started the day off with another great Hilton breakfast and then hit the road at about 11am. The road was almost completely highway, so it was a nice easy drive, until we hit the busy streets of Rome. We were able to enjoy some nice sights on the way down toward Rome of the Tuscany region and all the vineyards on the…

Rainy Firenze

Rainy Firenze

Florence, Italy, Europe Today started with the best breakfast we’ve had so far on this trip. Hilton hotels really know how to do breakfast! We caught the 11am shuttle into town to have a look at all the sights in the light of day. It really is a beautiful city. The Duomo (Cathedral) is a breathtaking piece of architecture made completely of Italian marble. We had read that the best view of the city is from the Piazzale Michelangelo on…

Beach then city

Beach then city

Florence, Italy, Europe Today started out on a very relaxing note. We figured that we would take the opportunity to go to the beach while we could. We’re not going to be on the coast much more after today until maybe the Amalfi coast later in the week. We also thought we would see if the day crowd in Chiavari was any younger than the one we saw last night. It wasn’t. We went down to the beach at about…

Riviera… Italian style

Riviera… Italian style

Chiavari, Italy, Europe For our first full day in Italy, we saw A LOT! We started out by taking the metro into the center of Milan from our hotel. It was only meant to take 20 minutes, but considering we took the first metro going the wrong direction and had to turn around and go back, it ended up taking a bit longer, but not bad. It was definitely worth it when we walked out of the metro to the…

On to Italy!

On to Italy!

Milan, Italy, Europe Today we moved on from Amsterdam and jetted over to Milan, Italy. We had a few hours to spare this morning in the Dam so walked around and found something for lunch before heading out to the airport. It’s a perfect system in Amsterdam: tram from anywhere in the city to Centraal Station and then a direct train to the airport in about 20 minutes. You can’t really get it wrong, which is good for us! We…

Tours, Tours, and Tours

Tours, Tours, and Tours

Amsterdam, Holland, Europe Today we slept until about 11am. For both of us, the main effect of the Space Cake was to make us wicked tired. We felt like we had to get up an not waste our last full day in Amsterdam. Our first stop was the Van Gogh museum. It was interesting to see a lot of his work that he’s not as well known for. It is amazing to find out he only painted for 10 years…
