Rain in the Desert…

Rain in the Desert…

Las Vegas, United States of America, North America I am on my way back from Las Vegas, after a somewhat disappointing 5 day trip. We arrived on Saturday morning and the weather was pretty decent. We met up with Mom, Steve, Bill, Bridget and Pat and then we all went our separate ways to check in to our hotels. Pat and I were at Hooters, the parents were all at the Hilton at the Flamingo, and Nikki and Leo were…

First week in Colorado

First week in Colorado

Colorado Springs, United States of America, North America My first week in Colorado was a fairly quiet one, but that was fine by me. After spending four weeks in CT running around trying to see everyone, it was nice to be able to just relax for a bit. Nikki and Leo picked me up from the airport and I spent the first few days up in Firestone, near Boulder. There’s not a lot happening up there, but they’re not too…

Visiting home, friends and family

Visiting home, friends and family

Boston, United States of America, North America So my first month is already over… I started my Round-The-World trip four weeks ago today, and enjoyed a lengthy visit home to New England. It was great being home for Thanksgiving, which I’ve missed GREATLY for the last few years. You really can’t beat a full day of tremendous food, time with the family, and football (American style of course!). The Patriots pulled out a great win against the Detroit Lions on…

Last full day in Egypt :-(

Last full day in Egypt :-(

Cairo, Egypt, Africa Today started out horribly when the train worker knocked on our door at 7:04am. First of all, he didn’t really need to knock on our door at all because I was still wide awake from the night before. The train ride was just as bad as the first one, so neither Ryan or I got a wink of sleep. It was hot, uncomfortable, REALLY bumpy and unbelievably loud. Apparently Egyptian trains just aren’t for us, but at…

Valley of the Kings and Karnak!!

Valley of the Kings and Karnak!!

Luxor, Egypt, Africa Today started out with another 6am wakeup call on the boat, but this time we had to be packed up and ready to leave the ship. We headed off the boat at 7am to go to the Valley of the Kings. We arrived to see that loads of tourists were already there and it was hot as hell! We made our way up to the first tomb and learned all about the area we were seeing from…

Edfu to Luxor… God it’s hot!

Edfu to Luxor… God it’s hot!

Edfu, Egypt, Africa This morning started with a 6am wake up call to go see the Temple of Edfu. The interesting thing about this temple is that structurally it is still completely intact. All of the other temples have had parts or most of it missing and is left in ruins. This temple was buried by silt from the Nile River for thousands of years and was perfectly preserved until it was excavated. This meant that we were able to…

Abu Simbel!!

Abu Simbel!!

Aswan, Egypt, Africa Today we had (what we hope to be) the earliest wakeup call of the trip. After going to bed around 12am a nice gentleman from the ship was knocking on our door at the completely uncivilized time of 2:15am! He must have been knocking for a while because I know I heard the knocking a few times before I realized what it was and answered the door. It was not easy getting up or getting Ryan to…

I’m on a boat!

I’m on a boat!

Aswan, Egypt, Africa Today started with our “wake up” call at 7:45am from the train. I hesitate to call it a wake up call because neither one of us actually got any sleep, but regardless, we were now up and getting “breakfast” in bed. Again, I hesitate to call it breakfast because it was a dinner roll, a pastry and an orange juice, but it got us moving anyway. There were no shower facilities on the train, so we all…

Pyramids and Sphinx!!!!

Pyramids and Sphinx!!!!

Cairo, Egypt, Africa Today started out with our earliest wake up call on the trip so far, 5:45am. We went downstairs and finally got to meet some of the people on our tour, since we’d missed the meeting last night. We signed up for some extra trips along the way, and then set off on the bus for our first stop in Egypt. We pulled up to the Egyptian Museum at around 8:40am and got a brief history lesson from…
