Hoi An to Hue by comfy bus

Hoi An to Hue by comfy bus

Hue, Vietnam, Asia We got up this morning and realized we’d slept later today than any other day of Dad’s visit. It was 7:15am and it was still pitch black in the room. They had some really good darkening shades in the room, so we weren’t disturbed at all. We were still early enough to watch the Sox lose another game to the Orioles before going to have our buffet breakfast in the restaurant by the pool. They had an…

Good Morning Vietnam! Saigon to Hoi An

Good Morning Vietnam! Saigon to Hoi An

Hoi An, Vietnam, Asia We got up this morning and had a nice breakfast at our hotel. They made us omelet’s and served them with a nice French baguette. I guess the French influence hasn’t been completely lost in Vietnam. We walked up to the War Remnants Museum and got there for about 9am. It only cost 15,000 dong ($0.75) to get in, and it was the most interesting museum I’ve been in on this trip. We obviously learn about…

Royal Palace, and bus to Ho Chi Minh City!

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, Asia We got up today at 6am, had some breakfast, and got a tuk-tuk at 7:15am to go to the Royal Palace. We were told that it opened at 7:30am, but they were wrong. We showed up only to find out that the Palace didn’t open till 8am. The tuk-tuk driver dropped us off at the National Museum just down the road, and said that was open from 7:30am, so we could go there first…

S-21 and Killing Fields

S-21 and Killing Fields

Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Asia Dad and I got up today not even caring where we were in the world, the more important thing was that the Patriots had played last night against the San Diego chargers and we had the recorded version to watch on my computer. We went downstairs in Me Mates Place and had some breakfast while we watched the Pats kick ass again, for a second week in a row! The breakfast in the hotel was pretty…

Bus to Phnom Penh

Bus to Phnom Penh

Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Asia We got up this morning and packed up all our gear for the bus trip. We had our last breakfast at Golden Mango Inn and our taxi showed up bring us to the bus station at 8am. We got to the bus station and were on the Mekong Express Bus to Phnom Penh. The bus was nice enough, but the air conditioning on it was terrible. It was barely blowing any air, and it certainly wasn’t…

Sunrise, Siem Reap, and Sunset

Sunrise, Siem Reap, and Sunset

Siem Reap, Cambodia, Asia This morning’s 4am wake up call was not exactly what I was hoping for today, but dad and I got up anyway. It didn’t appear to be raining or too cloudy, so we thought we could get a good view for sunrise. Sok picked us up at 5am and we headed over to Angkor Wat. The roads were really quiet in the dark of the early morning, until we got to the temple of course. It…

Angkor Wat, with my Dad!!

Angkor Wat, with my Dad!!

Siem Reap, Cambodia, Asia I was woken up by my dad this morning at 5:45am, and amazingly he wasn’t tired at all. We got about five hours of sleep and he was good to go. I was a bit tired, but still looking forward to seeing Angkor Wat. We actually found the Red Sox game on TV in the room, so we got to watch that for a bit while we got ready to leave. We had breakfast downstairs at…

From Laos to Cambodia

From Laos to Cambodia

Siem Reap, Cambodia, Asia I got up this morning, packed up my bags and set off in a tuk-tuk at 8:30am for Luang Prabang Airport. It is the smallest airport I’ve even been in, but again it was dead easy to check in and get through security. The flight was supposed to leave at 10:40am, but we found out at 10:30am that our plane was coming from Hanoi and was running late. My ticket was booked on Laos Airlines, so…

Rainy day sights

Rainy day sights

Luang Prabang, Laos, Asia I woke up this morning to the sound of rain pelting the tin roof awning just outside my window. It wasn’t exactly what I was hoping for since I wanted to do a bit of sightseeing and a dry day would have been nice. I lazed around for a bit hoping the rain would go off but at 10am I decided to do something. I went up to Joma Bakery and had an awesome breakfast that…

Rainy day, nothing to do

Rainy day, nothing to do

Luang Prabang, Laos, Asia Today started out great with an amazing showing by the Patriots crushing the Dolphins in Miami. I watched the first half of the Denver vs. Oakland game and then decided to head out. I went to a little French cafe for lunch, and then found a couple of bars to chill out and have a beer in. The weather was horrible all day today and never stopped raining. It really wasn’t the best day to go…
