Full day in Reykjavic

Full day in Reykjavic

Reykjavik, Iceland, Europe We got up this morning and went for a small bite to eat We went up the church tower at the top of the hill but unfortunately the weather was awful today. We went up to the top, but the view wasn’t great due to all the rain and fog. We went down and found a hostel called Kex that was recommended for us to get something to eat. We had lunch there and it was good,…

Lava falls, Ponies, back to the city

Lava falls, Ponies, back to the city

Reykjavik, Iceland, Europe Today was our last day of driving, and it was great. We had breakfast at Hotel Tindastoll before we left, and then headed out in search of a lighthouse. Melissa has never been to a lighthouse before, and we could see on our map that there are a couple here, but it turns out they are only on private roads and we couldn’t actually get to them. On our way back to Route 1 we stopped by…

Hiking a volcano and waterfalls

Hiking a volcano and waterfalls

Saudarkrokur, Iceland, Europe We got up this morning and went out to check out some of the sites near Lake Myvatn. The first place we checked out was called Dimmuborgir, which was right across the street from our cabin. It is this strange rock garden kind of place with a couple of caves. The whole thing was covered in snow, so some of the walking paths were closed. We walked through for a little while and then headed out to…

Amazing scenery and Nothern Lights!

Amazing scenery and Nothern Lights!

Lake Myvatn, Iceland, Europe We saw some of the most beautiful scenery of our trip so far today. We left the Gerdi Guesthouse early this morning and headed east. We made a stop in Hofn to look at the view (which wasn’t spectacular), and went to a grocery store to pick up more snacks for the drive. We managed to find some sandwiches that were already made as well, which made for a great picnic on some rocks. We stayed…

Glaciers and Lagoons

Glaciers and Lagoons

Hofn, Iceland, Europe I had a great night’s sleep last night, and we had a good buffet breakfast at at the hotel. That filled us with energy to get going today, and we needed it! We hopped in the car and drove to the Skaftafell entrance of Vatnajokull National Park. This is one of the more accessible glaciers in Iceland, so we took a hike. We couldn’t have asked for better weather. It was sunny and beautiful for the whole…

Amazing first day of waterfalls and geysers

Amazing first day of waterfalls and geysers

Vik, Iceland, Europe We had the most unbelievable first full day in Iceland! I was woken up at about 6:30am due to the bright sunshine coming through our curtains. We are getting about 18 hours of daylight here so it’s tough to escape the sun in the morning. We got up and packed all of our stuff and checked out by 8:30am. We left our bags so we could go find something to eat in the city and ended up…

First night searching for the Northern Lights

First night searching for the Northern Lights

Reykjavik, Iceland, Europe Our first night in Iceland was definitely a success! We got to hang out with some good company, see some amazing northern lights, and have some laughs. The trip started off by meeting Lynne and Sean at Edinburgh Airport a couple of hours before our flight to Reykjavik so we could grab a bite to eat. Even though airport food is always about double the price that you would pay anywhere else, we knew it would still…

Awesome day in the Amazon!!

Awesome day in the Amazon!!

Amazon River, Brazil, South America Today had a rough start, but it turned into an absolutely perfect day. I didn’t sleep much at all out in the jungle last night. I was in my hammock by 10pm, and I know I laid awake until at least 3am before nodding off a little bit. It was hot and sticky, and the rain was so loud that it made it really hard to fall asleep. I woke up just before 5am and…

Heading into the jungle

Heading into the jungle

Amazon River, Brazil, South America I had a great first day in the Amazon rain forest today! I got picked up at my hotel at about 8am, and I was driver around the corner to the tour office. I left my bag there, and met a couple other people who are going on a similar tour with the same company. I thought that everyone I was going with would be on the same five day tour that I’m doing, but…

Day walking around Manaus

Day walking around Manaus

Manaus, Brazil, South America I had a very good night’s sleep and had a very nice breakfast down in the dining room of the hotel. There was fresh fruit, juices, eggs, and bread. Pretty good for a cheap hotel. I went out into the city to explore, only to find out that there’s not really much to explore here. Right around the corner from my hotel is the Amazonas Theatre, which is really beautiful. It’s a huge pink building with…
