Vienna is beautiful

Vienna, Austria, Europe

I really got to see what a beautiful city Vienna is today. I got up around 7:30am, took my time getting ready and used the Internet down in the lobby for a bit. It’s so annoying that I can’t just use it in my room. I left the hostel around 10am and walked into the city center. The first place I came across was Belvedere palace. It was stunning. I walked past it yesterday but never went into the gates. Today I walked around the palace and the grounds and it was beautiful. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t very nice for most of the day today, but you can’t have it all.

I continued into the city center and went around the left side of the ring road and the center. There are so many beautiful buildings and monuments to see here, it really surprised me. It seemed like every corner I turned, there was another amazing building right in front of me. I grabbed something to eat and tried to dodge the rain for most of the afternoon. It came down pretty hard in spells, so I was trying to move from one part of the city to another while the rain calmed down a bit.

The only place I went into today was Saint Stephen’s Cathedral. This is the main cathedral of Vienna and it is beautiful inside. There were tons of people in there, probably trying to avoid the rain as well. After about seven hours in the city center I had had enough of the weather so I hopped on a metro and came back to the hostel.

I met a new roommate from Hong Kong named Andy. He’s studying in Innsbruck and in Vienna for the weekend to play lacrosse. We went out to try to find something cheap for dinner and came across a noodle bar. It had been a while since either of us had eaten actual Asian food, so we decided to partake. Good choice. We both had noodles with chicken and it was only €4.50 per plate. In any other country that would have seemed about average, but in Vienna that is dirt cheap. It was a great find.

We came back to the hostel and watched some of the French Open highlights from the tennis today and then the rain forced them to stop as well. Apparently it’s raining all over Europe now. Stupid rain. I spent the rest of tonight chilling here and I’m hoping for better weather tomorrow. I’m also hoping to get into the city center to take some pictures tomorrow night, but that will also be weather dependant. Fingers crossed!
