Shopping in Punta Arenas

Shopping in Punta Arenas

Punta Arenas, Chile, South America

I got up and had a nice cooked breakfast at my hostel this morning. The people working here are really friendly, and it turns out the manager who let me in last night speaks perfect english. I wish I had known that last night when I was trying to ask him questions, but I got by alright. I read that this is the place to do some shopping for any trips south because there are so many shops here, and it’s much cheaper than in Ushuaia.

I found a few outdoor stores in the center by the main square, and then some people pointed me in the direction of a part of the city called Zona Franca. This is a duty free area, and there are a lot of stores selling outdoor clothing. I got a collectivo down to Zona Franca and managed to find some trekking socks, a neck warmer, some thermals and waterproof trousers. It was a pretty successful shopping day for me.

I came back into town and had a little walk around before getting some pizza for dinner. I’m now back at the hostel and just relaxing. I’m getting a bus up to Puerto Natales tomorrow morning, and then I’ll start checking out Torres Del Paine national park. I’m looking forward to that for sure!
