Seeing Basel before heading home

Basel, Switzerland
Flight home to Edinburgh

It’s my birthday!! I woke up a little later this morning after a great night’s sleep. I had a lovely breakfast at the Hotel Neufeld, and then left the hotel to search for a mountain. I saw on a map that there was a mountain called Uetliberg and it is meant to give a great view of Zurich. I should have researched it a bit more because when I started to drive up there, I found out that I’m not allowed to do that. You’re meant to take a train up to the top, but I had already wasted about 45 minutes driving around before I found that out, so I decided just to leave it and head over to Basel.

I got into Basel at around 10:30am and walked around both sides of the river for about an hour and a half to see everything I really wanted to see. Almost every shop and restaurant was closed on this Sunday morning, so there wasn’t much to check out besides the old buildings and a couple of churches. I saw what I wanted to see and then headed back toward the airport. Luckily the Enterprise Rent-a-car lady gave me directions on how to get back to the car rental place because even though I was flying out of Basel, Switzerland, the main entrance to the airport is in France. Crazy, but true. So I filled up the car with gas, returned it, and got into the airport in plenty of time for my flight.

The flight home was fine, and it ended up being a really nice trip. It was a little too quick for my liking, but any time I can get away and see someplace new, I’m happy. And I was able to tick off another country from my list, so that’s one more down!
