Riga to Vilnius

Riga to Vilnius

Vilnius, Lithuania, Europe

I moved on to another city today, and it looks pretty similar to the last couple I’ve been to. Hannah and I got a bus from Riga to Vilnius this morning at 8:30am and got in at about 12:30pm. It was a pretty nice ride through the countryside, and I had a couple of older American guys to talk to. They are travelling around for a few weeks, but it seems like they’ve been absolutely everywhere in the world. It was cool to chat with them and get tips for everywhere around Europe and South America.

We got into Vilnius and I walked about a mile to find my hostel. It’s not the greatest location, but it is a really nice hostel. It’s just been refurbished, so the inside of it is really nice, and it’s only a 10 minute walk to the old town, so it’s not that bad. As soon as I got to the hostel, the weather turned pretty bad so I just chilled at the hostel for a bit. It started to rain and it was torrential for about 20 minutes, like I’ve never seen rain before. It was crazy.

I finally got out of the hostel at about 5pm and met Hannah at the Town Hall Square. We were both absolutely starving, so while we were trying to find a traditional Lithuanian restaurant, we came across an Italian place that looked really good. We decided just to eat there as well, so pizza from Basilico it was. And it was excellent!

We finished dinner and met Dean and his couch surfing host, Vaida, at an ice cream shop called Dione. They had some strange flavors like popcorn or grape. I had a scoop of coconut and a scoop of chocolate orange. It was awesome. We went out for one drink at a cider bar called Sarkozy after the ice cream, but we were all pretty exhausted, so we called it a night around 10pm. Hopefully I get a good night sleep tonight so I can go see a lot of Vilnius tomorrow.
