Rain in the Desert…

Las Vegas, United States of America, North America

I am on my way back from Las Vegas, after a somewhat disappointing 5 day trip. We arrived on Saturday morning and the weather was pretty decent. We met up with Mom, Steve, Bill, Bridget and Pat and then we all went our separate ways to check in to our hotels. Pat and I were at Hooters, the parents were all at the Hilton at the Flamingo, and Nikki and Leo were at the Venetian.

We didn’t do much on Saturday besides walking from one hotel to the other to see what they all looked like and had some drinks on the way. On Saturday night we went to Pampas for dinner. It is a Brazilian Steakhouse in Planet Hollywood where the waiters come around to your table with meat on skewers and cut pieces onto your plate.

The most memorable meal we had was on Sunday night when we went to Legasse’s Stadium in the Venetian to see the Patriots vs Green Bay game. This was the coolest sports bar/restaurant I have ever been to. There was a MASSIVE TV screen with the football game on, and it was surrounded by 16 smaller TV’s surrounding it. The seats consisted of about 8 rows or big leather couches with their own coffee tables. Up at the back of the restaurant were a few lounges which each contained their own 50 inch TV. It was an awesome place to watch the game and the food was great as well. Of course, this was expected in Emeril’s place.

The worst part of the trip was that our helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam was cancelled four days in a row. Not only did that mean that we didn’t make it out there, but it also meant that we had 7:30am wake up calls every day only to find out we weren’t going anywhere.

The flights were cancelled because of the weather. You would think that being in the middle of the desert, the last thing we would have to worry about is the weather. It turned out that we were very wrong about this. It rained for the last four days we were there and the fog that was hanging over the city kept us from seeing the top of a lot of the hotels for most of the time. Apparently they had never seen anything like it out there either, so we were just unlucky enough to be there when it happened.

Ah well, I guess I’ll just have to go back some day…
