Not a fan of Manila

Manila, Philippines, Asia

I had a horrible night’s sleep last night on the bus. The seats are just not big enough to accomodate someone who is over six feet tall. And it didn’t help that the person in front of me had to put their seat back to fully lie down, which just made it that much tighter. I was pretty sore from the caving and the hiking from yesterday, so I couldn’t get comfortable at all. It just wasn’t the most enjoyable bus journey.

I arrived in Manila at about 6am and got a cab to my hostel. Unfortunately, because Manila is a HUGE city, we had to drive for about an hour to get there. That gave me plenty of time to see just how dirty and horrible Manila is. There is garbage everywhere, all the people look pissed off, it smells terrible, there is a thick layer of fog covering the entire city and there is absolutely nothing nice to look out. There are a lot of big buildings in the city center, but they all just seem to be big ugly boxes with no character at all. It is one of the worst places I have ever seen for architecture.

I got to my hostel at about 7am and they were nice enough to let me check in then and go to my room. I was sharing a dorm with one other guy, who I met later on, but it was nice to be able to go in and lie down for a few hours. From all accounts, there is NOTHING in Manila worth seeing, so I spent the rest of the day in the hostel. I had a look at hostels in Bangkok, and ventured out of the hostel only for a few minutes to find some food and an internet cafe.

I’ve been in the hostel for the rest of the time and and just going to watch some movies and go to bed. At least tomorrow I get to leave here and go to Bangkok!
