Nice relaxed day in Lyon

Lyon, France, Europe

I had a pretty good day in Lyon. I have really enjoyed my hostel. The facilities are really nice, the people who work there are really nice, and the people staying there are really nice. I spent most of the morning just chilling with a few of the other hostellers, and went out around noon to check out some more of the city. I went up to Parc de la Tete d’Or in the north of the city, and found myself walking around a botanical garden, and then a zoo. There was no entrance fee or anything, so I went from looking at cacti, to seeing some giraffes wandering around. It was pretty cool.

I left there, crossed the river and went walking up into a more residential area of the city. I didn’t really know where I was going, but since I have my offline maps on my phone, I feel like I can never really get lost. It means I can be a bit more comfortable walking around places where I don’t know much about. This time I found myself climbing the highest set of stairs known to man, but it ended up with a decent view of the city.

I wandered around the city and the riverside for a while longer and then headed back to the hostel. There were a bunch of people watching the World Cup games that were on, so I joined in. My friend Jacquelien has come up with this game that every new city I go to, she sends me a picture that she finds online, and I have to find the place and take the same picture. Well she sent me a picture of the Notre Dame, but it was at night, so I had to go out and take a night picture of it. Of course, Brazil was playing Mexico and I didn’t want to miss that, so I waited until half time. I ran out of the hostel (in the pouring rain) and jumped on a metro. I got to the base of the church, ran out, took a couple of pictures, back on the metro, and got back to the hostel and only missed 10 minutes of the second half. I was pretty impressed, and the picture game continues!!

I am going to bed a bit earlier tonight because I have a 5:30am wake up call. I have a bus to Marseille in the morning, and I want to get some rest. Hopefully Marseille is nice down on the water. I haven’t been on a coast in a while.
