NFL Sunday in Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires, Argentina, South America

I got up today at the hostel after a great night’s sleep on solid ground for the first time in a while. I spent most of the morning just trying to get stuff organized from the Antarctica trip, and get some blogs uploaded, since I haven’t had internet in the last ten days. The only problem is that I took so many pictures while I was down there, that it’s taking me forever to look through them, pick the ones I want to upload, and then get them prepared for uploading. It sounds like it shouldn’t be a tough task, but it’s taking me a lot longer than I anticipated.

It didn’t help that I spent all day from 3pm onwards, just watching NFL football. I missed the games last week when we were on the ship, but luckily my wifi is good enough at this hostel that I could stream the games today and get my NFL fix. The Patriots won a tight game against the Jets which gave them a first round bye in the playoffs. The big game to watch now is Denver vs. Cincinnati tomorrow night. If Denver loses, then we will have home field advantage throughout the playoffs. If they win, the Patriots will need to win tomorrow night’s game to keep home field.

I met up with Gino tonight for dinner at Hard Rock Cafe. Gino is leaving to go back home to Holland tomorrow after his travels, so it was good that I got to catch up with him before he took off. We had a good meal at HRC, if not a little loud. There was a live band, which I thought was a bit strange for a Sunday night, and our seats were pretty close to the stage. It made it a bit difficult to chat, but they weren’t on the stage the whole time, so it was cool.

I hopped in a taxi to get back to my hostel, even though I had walked to get to dinner. Quite a few people have told me how dangerous this city is, so I figured at night it’s probably not worth me taking the risk of walking. The taxis only cost a few dollars anyway, so it’s not worth the risk.

From what I’ve seen in the last 24 hours (which is very little), the city doesn’t look nearly as nice as I thought it did when I was here for eight hours earlier this month. I must have gotten some taxis through nicer parts of the city then, because nothing has really impressed me so far. I suppose I should wait to make my judgement until I see a few different parts of the city. I’m sure there are some really nice parts, just not near my hostel apparently.
