Last full day in Vietnam

Last full day in Vietnam

Hanoi, Vietnam, Asia

I got up this morning and didn’t really do much of anything. I went out for lunch and walked around the streets near Hoan Kiem Lake until going to the Ho Chi Minh Museum for 2pm. I met Robert out in front of the museum and we checked out what I’ve been trying to see for the last four days. It wasn’t that impressive. It was broken up into two very different floors, the top floor was very artistic and the first floor was very informative. I think we did it backwards because we saw the artistic floor first and didn’t know what the heck we were looking at and what it was all supposed to be representing. It made a bit more sense after we went to the second floor and read about HCM and his resistance of the French.

We walked around for just over an hour and then decided we’d seen enough. Robert headed off to the Museum of Literature, and I headed back into town. I found a whole street full of camera stores, and finally found a hand strap for my camera. I’ve been looking for one for a few weeks, and I finally found a “real” Nikon one for only $10, so I bought it. I went around the corner and had some ice cream at Fanny’s again. Rebecka had recommended that I try the cinnamon ice cream, so I figured I’d better get back there and try it. It was awesome. I had a scoop of cinnamon and a scoop of peanut, they were both just as good as each other.

I went back to the hotel for a little bit and then headed out for dinner. I really wanted to have bun cha again, so I went back to the same restaurant that Melissa and I had lunch at. I was impressed with myself for finding the restaurant again, but disappointed to find out they ran out of bun cha! How can this be?! I settled for some fried noodles with chicken, which was good too, but not as good as the bun cha. I went out to a little local place for dessert that was recommended to me by Viviana, who lived in Hanoi for six months. It served this ice/fruit/sweet milk combination that was pretty amazing. I’m just bummed that I didn’t find it till my last night here.

I spent the rest of the night walking around the Night Market which was buzzing. It must go on for about a mile, and they have everything there. I was looking for a new pair of flip flops or sneakers, but I only managed to get a new iphone cover for $3. All in all, not a bad day. I’m a bit sad to be saying goodbye to Vietnam tomorrow. I’ve been VERY pleasantly surprised with the whole country and especially the people. I wasn’t expecting people to be very friendly but they really were. Maybe a bit standoffish at first glance, but as soon as you spoke to them, they were all very happy and smiley. I definitely want to come back to Vietnam some day and spend some more time here. The big cities were okay, but I’d really like to spend more time in the smaller towns. Vietnam has definitely been a highlight of the trip!
