Last day in Shanghai

Last day in Shanghai

Shanghai, China, Asia

I woke up this morning and had my last breakfast at Rock & Wood Hostel. It was a great place to stay, but I had to move closer to the airport for my flight tomorrow morning. I got all my stuff together and hoofed it up to the metro station and took the one hour ride out to where my new hotel is. I got to the metro station near my hotel, and had no idea how far it would be to walk from there, so I decided to take a tuk-tuk instead of chance it. I’m glad I didn’t walk, because the tuk-tuk ride was about ten minutes and I would have been exhausted with my bags on. Plus it only cost me about $3, so I was willing to take that trade.

The hotel is not nice looking from the outside but I was very impressed when I got to see the room. It was toted as a business hotel online, but since I got the room for only $21 a night, I was dubious. It is small, but it has all the amenities I need. The strange thing is that the bathroom is all surrounded by glass, and there’s no door, so you can see straight into the shower and the toilet parts from the room. I guess this room really is just made for one person.

I just dropped off my stuff and got a lift from the hotel’s taxi to get back to the metro station. While the hotel is decent enough, I didn’t want to spend any more time there then I had to. It’s out in the middle of nowhere and there’s NOTHING to do out here. I headed back into the city and figured I would check out some of the museums. Unfortunately, they all close their doors at 4pm, and when I got there at 3:30pm, the doors were already locked. I couldn’t get in to the Shanghai Museum or the Urban Development Museum. Ah well, you win some you lose some.

I walked around the city for a few hours just admiring the architecture and found a Boston Celtics hoodie that I picked up for $12. It’s not thick at all, but I figure I’m definitely going to need some warmer clothes for when I fly back to China and when I get to Scotland. I took the metro back to the hotel and got picked up by the hotel taxi again. I got a pot of noodles to make in my room and just spent the night here watching the National Geographic channel, that we randomly get in English. Tomorrow is a VERY early rise, so I need to get some sleep.
