Journey to a park that was closed

Madrid, Spain, Europe

I didn’t do much today besides run around and get nothing accomplished. My goal was to get out of the city to a park called Parque del Capricho, which is where one of Jacquelien’s scavenger hunt photos was taken. Vivi was at work, so I figured it was a good time for me to hop on a metro and go find this monument. Well, that didn’t happen.

I got the metro out to Capricho, which was about 35 minutes outside of the city, very close to the airport, and found my way to Parque Del Capricho. I could see from the map there were two entrances to the park, so I made my way over to the first one only to find that the gate was locked. I figured that this gate just wasn’t in use, so I walked all the way around to the other side of the park to find that this gate was also locked. There were some signs up in Spanish, but I didn’t see anything that looked like “This park is closed during these hours, or on this date” so it looks like the park is just closed now. I finished walking all the way around the park, thinking that I might find another sneaky way in, but no. The only way in was through one of these two gates, or over the eight foot high brick wall with barbed wire at the top.

So I got back on the metro and came back into the city, but was able to find the sandals that I was looking for for the last couple of days. So I guess I did accomplish something today. I also went to a pretty good little Mexican Cantina for lunch near Vivi’s flat, so that was good. I love Mexican food, so anytime I can have that is a bonus.

I spent the rest of the night hanging out with Vivi while she started to get her apartment packed up. She is moving back to Colombia next month so she is trying to get her things in order so some friends can help her move some suitcases back there. It’s not a fun job, but it needs to be done.
