Heading north to Thessaloniki

Thessaloniki, Greece, Europe

I got up today and got all my stuff ready to move on from Meteora. As much as I loved it there, I have to get a move on and head north. I had breakfast at the hotel and then got a bus over to Trikala. I had to wait there for about a half hour and then get another bus to Thessaloniki. It was a full bus and I had an assigned seat in the worst seat on the bus. It was the very back row where there are five seats, and I was in the second seat. So I didn’t have a window or an aisle seat. Just crammed in between two people for three hours. Next time I’ll know to ask for a seat NOT in the back row of the bus.

I got to Thessaloniki at about 1:30pm and got a local bus into the city center and found my hotel. This doesn’t appear to be the nicest looking city, but there is a decent buzz about it. I dropped my bags in my hotel room and headed down to the waterfront to see what this city has to offer. There are a lot of bars and restaurants on the waterfront, and the one tourist attraction, White Tower. It is an old tower from the 15th century right on the water. It was a decent way to find out the history of this city, but the view wasn’t as impressive as I was hoping.

I just spent a few hours walking around downtown and then spent the rest of tonight researching where to go next. It looks like there is a bus going to Sofia, Bulgaria at 3:30pm tomorrow afternoon, so I’m going to try to get that. I have no idea what Bulgaria has to offer, but I might as well find out!
