Full day in Reykjavic

Reykjavik, Iceland, Europe

We got up this morning and went for a small bite to eat We went up the church tower at the top of the hill but unfortunately the weather was awful today. We went up to the top, but the view wasn’t great due to all the rain and fog. We went down and found a hostel called Kex that was recommended for us to get something to eat. We had lunch there and it was good, but not great. It was super hipsterish, so not really my style, but it was a good place to grab a bite and chill for a bit.

After lunch we went on a free walking tour which would have been a lot better if not for the weather. It was windy, then it was rainy, then it was snowy, then it was clear, and then it would start up the cycle again. We started the tour next to the house of parliament and we had to move to do the introduction due to the protests that were going on outside. The whole Panama Papers scandal is going on just now and Iceland is right in the middle of it, so people are having a peaceful protest outside of the parliament house, even though it is a weekend and no one is there.

After the tour finished we stopped by the concert hall which is a very cool building. There are some awesome glass ceilings, and a very cool design of the building. I was quite tired from all the walking so we hung out for a little bit before moving on. Melissa had read about a bakery that was supposed to be the best in Reykjavik so we went on a mission to find that and get a treat before dinner. We found Bernhoftsbakari and got a few pastries and breads to try, and realised that we had just gotten there before they closed.

We took our treats and came back to the apartment to chill for a bit before dinner. We watched Interstellar which I had seen before, but it is just an incredibly awesome movie. We finished the movie and then took a walk down to Coocoo’s Nest for dinner. They have specialty pizzas and wow, they were excellent! I had a sweet potato pizza that was just out of this world!

When we left Coocoo’s Nest we had a hankering for something sweet and there was an ice cream bar just next door that was the busiest place in town. We waited in the queue and got our ice cream and we were not disappointed. It was a great was to finish the night. We are back at the apartment now and just finished the movie. It’s time to head to bed and then tomorrow we have to pack up and head home. We are going to see the Blue Lagoon tomorrow on our way to the airport though, so that should be cool.
